Ok, It's been a quite a while since I did any airbrushing so I got a bit bored and cranked this out last weekend in a few hours. (I'll get some better pictures and post them later)

I work as a Model Maker on product development team building prototypes of tool storage equipment. When I was hired there was this sad little tool cart that the model makers push around to wherever they are working on a project. I adopted this one and started tweaking it a bit. So far, I installed a Stainless Steel top, re-painted it black, added in-drawer lighting, ground effects lighting, power strips and tomorrow, powered speakers for iPod integration.

The painting is about 18" x 26" and done in one shot with both air and hair brush. Not anywhere near what my Hero - Rod Tickle can do, but it's not bad for a color-blind monkey.

I might finish it off by putting my name on the helmet in Gold-leaf with a black drop?

Next week I'll do the other side.

 -

OK, anyone else out there have any fun tool carts? If not, maybe you have ideas or suggestions on what you need for one in your shop?

So,Today I decide to add some LED "gallery" lighting to highlight the airbrush work on my little tool car. Since I had the tools out I added iPod integration with some powered Logitech speakers and subwoofer. And for good measure I added nicer looking casters, fancy little mags. Not sure if I mentioned it before but the drawer lights up when you pull it out so you can see what's inside. Tomorrow I am hoping to airbrush a 2010 Shelby GT500 Mustang on the blank canvas side?

You have to drag over one of the "normal" carts for a side by side comparison.

Looks cool as h@ll so far though . . .

Hey Cisco,

Yeah the LED's on this as well as the powered speakers are all hooked into 110 - 120v inside the cabinet. There is also a power strip located on the back of this cart, so I can plug in power tools when I need to. And this particular speaker set-up doesn't have a remote. But I am thinking of getting a docking station that has one included. My mural painting setup does have a remote and a bunch more watts than this little set.

I spent about 8 hours today working on airbrushing a Shelby on the other side. I discovered a couple things while working on this.... One is that my eyes are just not what they used to be. And neither is 1-shot paint!

I'll post some pics of the other side once I get it finished.

Is there like a little planet that you go to for re-energizing and this come back to this goofy place and come up with stuff like that? That is the coolest tool cart I have ever seen(to date).
Nice job ya got there, Dale. Miller park in the spring? We'll talk about the mural you're aching to help me with.

I wanna work where you do. The equipment in the background is the kind of stuff I dream of having in my own shop someday.

That thing is COOL!

not much storage on there from the looks of it though. unless maybe there is an opening on the opposite side from the iPOD.

Thanks Harris,

We were told by our sister model shop when we were setting up to leave out all the drawers on the cart. Otherwise you just load them up and make it too heavy to push around all day long. not to mention we have tool boxes every where for other tools.

Yeah we have some pretty cool toys. VMC's with 20 tool holder carousel auto tool changer!, CNC mills, EDM, FDM's, 10' 100 ton press brake, 10 gauge notcher, hanging spot welders. We can and do build almost anything.

never the same day twice!

Sounds too cool, Dale. You seem to be landing some good jobs, over the years. Nothing better than a bunch of well organized tools, to get the ideas flowing, along with a healthy dose of creativity...which you definitely have.

Lets boogie in Pontiac...I'm ready.
