The great gathering at Fred's has come of age. This year marks the 21st year that Fred and Marilyn Self have opened their shop to sign folks and pin stripers from around the country.
March 13-15 at Oklahoma City. Cost is $80 per person and includes door prizes, an apron, and more food than you can possibly eat.
David Butler is working on a design for the apron and glass pieces with that design will be available for all of us to play with.
The video that I shot last year will be available for viewing in Fred's "living room". Maybe even have a few copies available as door prizes, too.
Robert Beverly will also have bulk quanities of the quick rubbing varnish and spar varnishes that Rick Glawson made available through Esoteric Sign Supply. Those will be available in smaller containers at a later date.
Fred's is always the event of the year. If you haven't made the trip to Oklahoma City, this is the year to do it. As Fred gets older there will come a time when it's not possible for him to produce this event each year. Don't get caught saying "I wish I had...."
There's always some neat project that gets given away by raffle and this year it will be something extra special. What is it? You'll just have to come and see.
Deadline for entry is February 27. (Marilyn always accepts folks at the last minute, but let's not treat her that way, OK?)

I had the pleasure last year to attend Freds meet. I've been to a lot of meets since '95 and Freds will always be remembered as one of my favorites. You name a technique in this craft of signmaking and it was in progress at this meet. So much to learn and share. The only way you could go wrong at this meet is to try to follow Mark Yearwood (or follow his directions). Ask me how I know.
The fee is very reasonable and there are a ton of good, reasonably priced rooms in the area and the airport is real close. If you've never been to a meet or are looking for the best, this meet should be on the top of your list.
I won't be going this year but I'm saving my pennies for a return trip.
Here's a few shots from last year...
