Its still winter in these parts but today was nice, sunny and a little warm in the afternoon. While I know Raymond would rather I work, it was the perfect day to test drive a new flat car just completed and put on the rails. So I set the MultiCam to working (COMPLETE WITH AUTOMATIC TOOL CHANGES) and we went out to play. Phoebe strapped on her bike helmet for safety and took her position behind grampa and off we went. As we started rolling Phoebe called out 'ON THE BOARD!!!' She was technically correct because I had put a piece of plywood on the steel frame of the car as the permanent planking is yet to come. We were 'on the board.'
And off on a wonderful sight seeing journey we went! Phoebe declared we were on a sight seeing safari to Africa... and sure enough we saw plenty of wildlife. African horses, African goats, African birds and African dogs abounded. It seems zebras, elephants, lions and such were not around today. It must still be a little cold for the more exotic animals to be out.
Still, it was a GREAT day to be riding the rails in Yarrow...

In winter lawns stay green in these parts. Ours does need mowing pretty quick but there's no real panic as it grows slow this time of year. Another month and a bit and the trees will be budding once more. I can hardly wait!
The second rail car will be done this weekend and it too will be given a trial next week. It will be an ore car - with seats for passengers. The flat car just completed is for hauling hay to the barn for the horses.
This railroad isn't just for joy riding in Yarrow...

Thanks Donna...you are such an encouragement!
Get serious Sawatzky...don't you know that we are in the middle of an economic crisis? You are supposed to be worrying - I'm not sure about what, but I do know that everyone is supposed to be worrying. Don't make me come up there!
So where's the motor on that thing?

Raymond... flatcars do not have motors, well.... exceot for grampa's legs. And they are a little tired after all that pushing.
The train will be eventually powered by the steam engine (which will actually be battery powered). The flat car is sure a LOT easier to push by hand than the HEAVY engine. And grampa gets to ride too on the flatcar!
And I'd love for you to come back... we'd even offer you a ride!
And as for the worry part... trying my very best to not to worry in Yarrow...

My ride in the steam engine was very exciting when I was there...but then it became my turn to be the "engine". Also, Phoebe's side car was a perfect fit for me.
I have no doubt that whatever happens in your part of the world, "worry" will not have anything to do with it.
Yesterday, I went back and listened to your "lecture" and also the interview I did with you. Made my day just a whole lot better. Thanks for the extended inspiration.
This morning I was putting together some video from Gary Anderson. Between Grandpa Dan and Grandpa Gary you just have to feel better about yourself and everyone else.

So does this mean I need to pack my helmet when I come up in October? Believe it or not, I am actually taller than Phoebe. (I don't get to say that too often, so I take advantage when I can.)

There's no need for a helmet Chris... this train is kinda pokey. And that means we have more time to admire the scenery or smell the flowers. We've all heard of shortline railroads... and this is probably the shortest line for some distance around. Although it will eventually circle our proerty (about 1200'') it only goes a little more than a hundred for now until I can afford to get some more track... and find the time to lay it too.
Hopefully by October the train engine with the rail cars hooked behind will be cruising without the need to push!
It looks like we will have a real good bunch of folks here in October!

Bob, Your comment on "P" reminded me about the last time I saw you. Might have been something to do with the Fish Bowl. BTW are you going to Las Vegas in April?

A Dawgie has to stay hydrated “once in awhile” (or so I’m told) . And that’s the story I’m swore to “stick” to.
It’s not looking to promising for ISA/Vegas ’09 at this point.
With the “official” release of Adobe CS4 happening shortly after last September’s Photoshop World (held in Las Vegas), I’m itching to attend PW in Boston taking place towards the end of March. If I manage to pull that off (and it’s a very big “if” at this point), a trip to Vegas is almost out of the question.
Combine the above information with the “hint” of Raymond’s remarks above and that percentage drops to almost zero. Kathy and I have been working on a collaborative project that started just before leaving for Las Vegas this past fall. With duration of working time from start to finish being about nine months, the fruits of those “labors” are currently scheduled to conclude on the 29th of April. Once phase one of this project is completed, phase two commences and is currently budgeted for approximately eighteen years. We are aware of phase three but haven’t set any firm plans or direction at this point but have started preliminary funding.
The working name for this project was “Baby G”, but shortly after returning from the Sign World show in Atlantic City we had enough information to change the working title to “Lady G”. Once the release date has been set in stone, we will provide the official project name (currently rumored to be “Matilda” )
Tell Laurie again how much that I enjoyed the talk we had in Vegas. You can also tell her the next talk we have will more than likely produce different answers and perspectives compared to the last time.
Raymond, imagine if you will, the largest “fish bowl” you have ever witnessed at a county fair. Now imagine some very adult based liquid content contained within and ALL straws pointing to the top Dawg; and he finished it! Even the recently “come-out-of-hiding” Tracie was a witness to the event. Additional info over at this older post.

OK, my bad. Let me put it into Temple Texas sign guy speak.
Kathy is pregnant and due April 29th.
Was that better?
Seriously, “Flowers for the Living” Raymond! Thanks for everything brother!
OK, we can now return this thread back to Grampa Dan and his toys, I mean tools!
