I still have the panel Monte used to show me how to paint feathers. 3 colors a dry Lavalle brush and some mineral spirits on a rag. He told me, he's done hundreds. They are beautiful. Most have gone to templates and tape, but this is very quick.
I called and talked to Patsee this morning and she says that Monte is improving everyday. He is beginning to communicate with them even though she says his voice is so weak he can hardly whisper. He is saying yes and no and a few other things so that they know what he wants.
She had to move him to a nursing home for the hospital couldn't care for him any longer. The nursing home is a small one not too far away and the staff there really likes Monte. They are like most any staff and don't try to help him sit up in bed, etc. Patsee says that she pops in and out all the time to keep them on their toes however.
He is to start physical therapy soon to help him build muscle and learn muscle control so that he can do some things for himself and maybe eventually learn to walk again.
Patsee wants to get him as close to home as possible (if not at home) so that she can take better care of him and keep the shop going too. Right now Monte's son, Michael, is helping as much as he can and I think she has help from a couple of other sources once in a while.
I think Monte is a good bit better than he has been and Patsee has a more positive outlook now than when we talked soon after the stroke. So all I can say is that's good news!
Hang in there Monte and you too Patsee! We're all thinking about you!

My very close friend, Elaine suffered a stroke a year ago near New year's & had such trouble speaking, putting thoughts to words. Here she is now, a year later, ready to go back to work as a caseworker for workman's comp!
She said that the most important thing was GOOD THERAPY. Good speach therapy was a must, & since she is a nurse, she knew where to get it.
I have lots of hope for Monte, he will be fine! Just takes lots of time & patience.
