PITA change in your pocket. Never amounts to much.

Or does it?

In Oz we have a huge 50c coin that weighs 10X it's worth.

Years ago Sue & I started collecting them in a jar and every now and then banked them into a savings account for the five grand-daughters to collect on their 18th birthday.

Eldest one will get nearly $700 next year!

But what to do with all the other "shrapnel" in yer pocket/purse?. 5c and 10c (save the 20c for parking meters). Try this!

 -

These are the twins Erin and April 2y/o and Holly 4. Every time Sue or I get three 5c or 10c coins we popone each in the piggies. Damn things weigh a ton each already! This is additional to the traditional 50c coin trick.

Wonder how much the twins will collect in 16 years time?

My coin change used to collect up fast. I'd throw it in a jar and in no time have $150 saved up... now I do so much with my bank debit card, I can go several weeks sometimes without having any cash in my wallet. I suppose one day piggy banks will be a thing of the past, and it'll be a sad day for kids...

I never use change when paying. I fill the ash tray they bag it and start over. Every other year when we get ready to take a cruise, I cash it in. Gives us an extra $700 to $850 spending money.

16 years? I'll bet they have a nice little savings there! [Applause]
We toss all our loose change in a jar. Just a few weeks ago, cashed in $425 to take a trip north to wine country!
Jon...one of these days maybe we can get enough of those coins saved to make it over to see ya! [Smile]

I always pay with bills and put the leftover change in my "piggie bank". It does add up.

hahahhaa Sheila.

No, the piggies and the 50c coin jar gets emptied periodically and put into seperate savings accounts for each of the 5 girls.

Sue finally found a bank that didn't charge service fees. The interest is pitiful, but it does mount up over the years.

I have a 5 gallon water jug almost completely full of coins. Very heavy....goin to cash it in soon.

It would be a great contest to guess how much it's worth and the weight.

I give myself a cash allowance every week and all the coin change i get goes into a jar. Mum uses the coins to catch the bus and when she's borrowed $5 or $10 worth she puts a note in the jar. I saved $300 towards my recent OZ trip [Smile]

Those piggies sure are cute Jon!

Although I don't use cash that much anymore, it's still amazing how quick it adds up! No kids here so we use it for "fun money" whenever we travel.

Mike, I'll guess it's over a grand, $1,132.83 to be exact [Smile]

Havin' fun,
