Many folks who attended the last workshop labored on a sign for a minature horse farm carving the fiberglass-reinforced concrete 'tree' support for it.

A couple of days ago we did the install to complete the project.

Here's the finished project...

 -

The customer was delighted with the result, especially when we told her that well known artists from around the world worked on her project in Yarrow...

I think I see a flaw!!! I could be wrong but it looks like the blue panel is perfectly round. [Eek!]

Although the logo wasn't my design I could certainly live with it. The perfectly round 'circle' is a ctually an oval and tipped over to the right. We also made it wiggly texture including the edges although at this scale its somewhat hard to see.

We even used a level to put it in nice and straight... and I know for a fact the owner checked it with his shiney new level after we were gone back to Yarrow...

Looks great Dan!

Ian, the tree is concrete.
I think Dan posted at least one pic of Ray reaching to work on the high spots, while others crowded in below him to help with the low end..
(I was fussing with enroute on my laptop... so no check coming here... from Dan anyway... but the enroute training is paying off already... but I'm saving that topic for another thread)

The sign face was routed from Precision Board as was the texxtured back. These were glued up over a welded steel frame - thanks to the help from Henry.

Then I fabricated a welded steel armature with 1/4 pencil rod and we fastened metal alth to this. We started out with a fairly conventional design but the day before the workshop was to start I got the idea to do a single knarly tree as a sign support. A quick call to the client confirmed we could do whatever we thought would look good as 'we were the artists' (I LOVE clients like that!)

At the workshop we did a conrete carving demo... but many folks jumped in to help and try their hand at the fun work...

 -

Here's the project as it looked in the shop when everyone was done...

As I have kept in touch with all you letterheads browsing through this all wonderful sight, I was so touched to see yet another one of Dans dreams come true. He had his family working in his shop. I had tears in my eyes knowing how special this is for him. I had the wonderful honor and priveledge to be part of this family and the memories I will cherish forever. Much I learned in the creative stream of things but a whole lot in building character. I believe you Oh me some candy dan Ha HA HA HA. It was great meeting you all at the last workshop I wish you all the best. I was so blessed to watch as my little girl was so inspired by you all. Oh yah Rene I am watering the bonsi very carefully. Love and Laughter Michelle and Savanah
