After four solid days of playing with gold, screening, chipping and learning so many tricks and tips on surface gild, water gild, paints, inks, burnishing,....My brain is full (no comment please!)
This class was amazing and I urge any of you still sitting on the fence about attending the next class (tentatively April 09).....JUST DO IT. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. It will open your eyes to new ways of seeing things and give you courage to try new ways.
Boise is a quaint and friendly town with all amenities within a few blocks and very reasonably priced motels. The class fee is tiny compared to the value of what is taught.
The four glass pieces that we each worked on are incredibly beautiful...and you can even choose your own colours if you negociate with Noel Weber (Ha Ha....inside joke). Noel was very thorough in showing us the blending techniques that create rich areas on the glass. We were shown different ways to lay the gold as Noel and John have totaly different ways to get the job done. Both are easy and fun.
John Studden, endured tremendous physical pain to teach his craft. He was injured in a motorcycle mishap only days before the class was to begin and made the journey because he did not wish to disappoint his students or let us down. He needed a bit of extra help to screen the panels and other things as his bandaged hand, broken fingers and sprained foot and bruises got in the way...as did his cane and motorized scooter (Yup...wheelies are possible on a scooter!)...but he was a trooper ...he did not complain and was happy to show us his special tricks. Thank you John, speedy recovery to you.
Thanks to Robert from Texas, Linda and Bruice from Nevada, Tina from Florida, Bobbie from Pennsylvannia, Kim from Arizona, Bryce from Oregeon, Ron and Carol from Montana, Garrett from Illinois, Dennis from Idaho (sorry if I missed anyone)as all contributed something to this packed classroom.
Please post details soon on the more advanced class being considered (maybe Santa can contribute).
Thanks to Lucy Weber for her hard work and meals. Thank you soooooo much Noel and John.

YES!!! Sue said it all! Just as Jill's Mars meet changed my life, being my first meet, this workshop totally redirected my interests & abilities.
Noel & John's teaching was EXCELLENT, & very thorough. All questions answered, & drat! Now I am thinking of more I didn't think to ask!
Yea, poor John was quite the trooper, scooting around, or leaning on his cane, & helping each one of us, even when he was hurting pretty bad. He is a fascinating & "colorful" fella!
Gold, gold, & more gold, all kinds of ways to apply it, different looks, different karats. Also a good demonstration on marbling in reverse on the glass.
They were very hospitable, & Lucy Weber had a really nice lunch & coffee prepared for us each day we were there. We lacked nothing.
My brain is full too, Sue! I feel like hiding from customers for a while & barracading myself in my shop to play with my new skills I have aquired!
Please DO consider this, any of you who are thinking about it. It is worth the money & trip out there. The city is BEAUTIFUL & CLEAN. And on my last day there, Monday, I was walking around town & was amazed at how many storefronts were gilded by Noel's shop! His work is everywhere.
Thank you so much Noel, Lucy, John, & Dennis who ran around getting things for us & helped with everything.

Susan, you went again? Unless my memory is really failing me you were in my May 2007 class, no? It was truly a rewarding experience. That workshop is worth it's weight in gold. (pun intended) I would love to go to an advanced workshop if Noel had one.

Dave your memory is perfect. I enjoyed that class a lot, but because I didn't use what I had learned I forgot some of the steps (USE IT OR LOSE IT!!!!)
Also I needed to see how the screening process worked as I missed some of those steps altogether....(possibly some blonde moments or just yakking too much!! Ha Ha)
The second time round was even more enjoyable than the first as it really sunk in this time and I am very confident that I can do this now.
An advanced class will just be the icing on the cake....Whoo hoo...can't wait. Hope to see you there.
