I returned from Africa on Aug, 10th, 2008. It is unbelievable what some of them have to do to survive. In the community we were working in, some of the women and children walk up to 3 miles to draw water out of a dirty creek. They walk down a 300' hill that is at about a 70 degree angle, then back up with a container that weighs 50 lbs.
Because of this experience, we are starting an organization to collect artwork of any type to raise money for wells in Africa. We are developing a website where the artwork will be displayed and can be purchased. Once a piece is sold it will be put into the previously sold gallery so people can still see the artwork. We are asking that anyone willing to donate artwork, please send your contact info along with the artwork info(size, media, description, etc.) If the piece is in the sold gallery, then someone interested in your artwork can contact you about future pieces. We are trying to do this in a manner that will help promote artists not just benefiting the organization. The website will be Artists4Africa.net. It should be up and running in the next week.
Anyone interested can send the artwork to my office at: Donald Thompson 580 Templeton Rd. Laurens, SC 29360
For more info contact me at: Office 864-682-7810 Cell 864-923-1617

I have a few pieces I could donate Donald. What do I do just ship them? What about prints? All the art I have is framed and bulky, but I can roll up some prints and send them in a tube. I've been to Africa (north africa) and i've seen some horrible conditions.

We will take anything that anyone would consider artwork(paintings, prints, pinstriping, pottery, sculptures, carvings, airbrushing, etc,). Our logo that is still being developed has all the aspects of art in it. We have music, dance, drama, painting, photography, pinstriping, painting, pottery, and airbrushing in the logo.
I will be going to the Alabama meet, if anyone wants to bring anything there. If anyone wants to ship something and doesn't care to pay the postage, contact me and I will give you my UPS number to ship it with.
I wll be returning to Kenya, Africa this next summer. We will be going back July 25 - Aug. 2. I will be taking my oldest daughter with me. I can't wait. We are already helping one of the communities with a well.

I know there are alot of these charity auctions that happen all over. I have participated in many of them. This is something totally different.
Those we are trynig to help don't have basic necessities of life. We are also wanting to promote artists to buyers that they wouldn't usually come in contact with. Please consider helping us in any way that you can.
If anyone needs any additional info, please contact me by e-mail or phone. We are developing our mission statement this weekend and the website should be up by next week.

Thanks Mark that would be great. What is the size of the panel? On the website you can see that we want to put the artist info and artwork info on there so people will know all about the artist and artwork.
Just send it to the address on my profile. Ricky is sending some prints also. Anyone wanting to send stuff can contact me and I'll give you my UPS number or I'll send you a label.

There is no theme Mark. We are trying to receive any type of artwork that someone might want to buy, no matter where they live. We have been promised prints, pinstriped panels, a quilt so far, but we could never have enough stuff for the amount of wells needed in Kenya.
