While the subject is still fresh and on everyone's mind these days, I have been asked to offer a workshop on the east side of the continent.
I would like to run a quick survey to measure the interest. I'm not hiding anything nor am I pulling the carpet under Dan's feet for he is well informed of the following.
I would MUCH rather avoid giving workshops and keep Dan as a good friend. We all know the cost implication of going to the west coast, hotel plus workshop although it is worth every penny, but some people are on a much tighter budget and could only afford an east coast class.
Dan's workshops are more than just the educational portion, just visiting his workplace is a brain rush not to mention his life experience and motivational speaches. Add a round of golf at the Giggle Ridge, the special care from Janis and the rest of the staff makes even more sence to attend.
But still, some might prefer to stay on the east side of the continent. My proposed workshop would probably take place directly at the AXYZ manufacturing plant in Burlington just besides Toronto for my little shop couldn't handle this kind of activity. They have lots of room, full video conference rooms and demo tables to play on.
The education would cover general use of CNC equipment, EnRoute training of course, actual parts would be made and finished. We would also cover faux-finishing, goldleafing, Magic Smooth and Sculpt and general design application for 3D signage.
Again, no dates are set as of yet, this is just a survey to measure the interest of an eventual east coast workshop.

Rene has my full support in this endeavor. I am proud to call Rene my French brother, and one of my very best friends. We are alike in many ways... and both share a huge passion for our craft with different styles.
The purpose of both our workshops is to encourage and train others to use their CNC routers to the fullest manner possible. We want to raise the bar in the sign industry. Whether these folks who are eager to learn use Rene's or our workshop for that purpose isn't important... but rather the knowlege passed on and shared.
While there will undoubtably be a similarity of a fair amount of material covered, both workshops will also have a very different flavor too. I have little desire to 'take our show on the road' and so Rene will pick up that ball on the east coast.
Who knows... I may even attend Rene's workshop to learn some new things. I am always eager to do just that!
We are scheduling two workshops here in our Yarrow studio in 2009 - one in February and one in October... exact dates to be announced in the next week or so.
I encourage everyone interested to sign up for one of these workshops to bring your CNC routing skills to their potential... either one of ours or one of Rene's...
With the workshops now being planned on both coasts there is no excuse not to do so!

Hmm...as long as Dan says it's OK and you're just measuring...then measure me in! Je parle francais en peu, so hopefully I won't have as much of a communication problem as Raymond did!

Sounds like a great opportunity for anyone on the east coast. You'll be a wonderful teacher as I watched you help many people in the two workshops.
I have to start saving for another workshop!

I had a great little Talk at Consac with Rene about his router. Even though I did'nt get to spend a lot of one on one time with him, I truely know that he as the same with the others is a very likable person... even though he's from Quebec. lol
I got a good slap on the wrist from him as well, for not taking up a brush while I was there, well I did a little with kelly, brush that is.
Next time I'll certainly be a bit more assertive, in taking part.
I would be intersested in attending a workshop at some point. As these routers do interest me.

Those that might be attending Rene's workshop will certainly not be getting a second rate instructor. While he may talk funny, his has a practical knowledge of dimensional signage and exhibits only quality designs.
Even though he doesn't need my endorsement, I would highly recommend whatever he does.

Yeah Rene has a problem saying ree-ally, and nobody I met in Yarrow knew what aluminium was but something called aluminum.
He is a very good person to learn from has great knowledge of enroute, and is a fellow AXYZ owner...couldn't be better...I plan a visit one day to the other side (Canada that is)..Dan you can keep a secret can't you

I learned a lot from Rene, both from his Enroute discussions & his portfolio discussions. I was extremely impressed with his talent and generosity, in much the same way as I am with Dan's. I would be interested in his workshop too, although it would be quite a trip, I do have some business in Ontario from time to time, and will head over to Quebec for a visit even if no workshop were available.

I'm in Rene- just say when and give me an address. I have been interested in this for several years. Now's the time to jump in. I am particularly interested in learning the software. Are we going to do a particular project or is this first one just a general learning? Looking very forward to it.

Come on you guys! Is there not more people interested in learning the 3D software so we can move to the next level??????? I personally can't afford a router at this time but if I can learn the software there are people who sell wholesale to the trade! I can send my files to them. Maybe shortly, if I can get on to it, I will take the leap.
*yeah ok shameless bump, but I want to go to this*

Deri, I'm sure that others would consider this workshop. The thread has actually only been here for a short time and without definate dates and costs it could be difficult for some to suggest that they would attend. I would probably bring my son, so that makes 2 and I have a fried in Quebec, who is not a member of this board, that may be interested in coming....c'mon Doug, get Rene to time it right and buy that plane ticket!

There will be no need for English translation Doug, if I have one in the Toronto area, it will be in English. I know some people think that I have an accent (like Chapman), but at least when I order at the deli, they understand my order on the first trial !... bless your heart.
I'm waiting for a phone call in the next day or so from a company who wants to purchase all remaining seats of my French workshop (WOW).
If it all works well and if I want to do this again, the next one would most probably be in English in Toronto and the dates would be announced at a later date. I would probably survey again, to see when the best time for all participants to fill the most possible seats.
Stay tuned... so far, from what I can read on this thread, there would be enough interest to think that it will probably happen in 2009.
