I'm doing a simple sign for a local deli- 1/2 Chicken Dinner...for some reason the 1/2 no longer shows up. It's just a box. It happens with every font. What did I inadvertantly change to cause this?

My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone. Posts: 3129 | From: Tooele, UT | Registered: Mar 2005

EVERY font? Some fonts don't have the ½ alternate character.

Yup, what Frank said.. a lot of fonts don't have a ½ symbol. So take a 1 and a 2 in the appropriate font, position a home-made slashie between them, group it and shrink it down to size...

You can also find a font that does have the ½ and use that one. Try the ALT key. ALT + 0189 = ½ Altho I like Jon's Redneck method and have used it myself. Love....Jill

Jill, I am far from the sharpest exacto in the sign kit, and have never been able to use ALT to get anything but little 'thunk' noise windows makes to tell you you're doing it wrong. I have to pull up the 'insert symbol character' docker in corel and scroll through the fonts to find what I'm after. There is something I'm missing that seems to be obvious to everyone else.
Not meaning to hijack this thread, it's just something that has always irritated me.

Make sure you hold down the ALT key WHILE you key in the 0189 on the right-side keypad. Also, I think the numlock has to be on.

Or you could just bookmark this post, and if you need them, jump back in here.... Copy and paste the symbols out of Jill's message right there...
But that'd be another redneck method.

The 1/2 is there in the appropriate font when I type it, then disappears when I hit enter. I'll try the alt thing

Ok, it didn't work, but I was able to get a temporary fix by going to text, insert character, select font and click and drag the characters to the CorelDraw workspace.

I've had that happen while testing fonts and can only attribute it to a wonked-out keyboard or little sign gremlins bent on undermining the American way of life.

Quick fix... Type in "1/2" then go to the node edit mode in Corel. Set them up the way you want by dragging the node on the lower left of the individual characters, then resize it as needed. On jobs like price boards, it's handy to have it a separate element you an copy and paste where you need.
Works with all fonts. Hope this helps... Rapid
