I am curious if anyone has used the 18lb precision board and how they like it. Here it is about $50 cheaper than 15lb sign foam. I bought a sheet of the 15lb precision board befor and really wasn't that impressed it was really rough and didn't seem to have any strength for fastners. I am thinking about trying the 18lb but am kind of curious as to others experiences.

Thanks in advance.

The 18# is just slightly more dense than the 15#. The newer PB Plus is smoother and less dusty than the older versions.

Contact Coastal Enterprises and Kelly will send you a sample....I'll just bet.

The more dense Precision Board (20# and 30#) are very nice, but they also are more expensive.

Dan Sawatzky uses PB almost exclusively, so he would be better able to answer your question.

For the past few years we have been using Corafoam by Duna (sorry Kelly) and have been very satisfied with it, but distributors are hard to find. Also, their production plant is in Baytown, Texas and were right in the middle of Ike, so they are just now getting back electricity and their production going again.

I've used the 18 lb. several times, and like it better than the 15. It's denser, and seems to allow fasteners to hold better.

We use 30 and 40lb Precision Board exclusively in our shop. I hear its a little harder to locate dealers who carry the heavier weights but we solve that by ordering a good stock of it twice a year or so. Ordering it in large lots gives us a price break too offsetting much of the higher price. By large lots I mean 70-100 sheets at a time in various thicknesses. It saves a bunch on freight too by ordering it in large quantities. We've never had damage either in large quantities as it comes on its own pallets and is packaged securely.

The 30 and 40 lb Precision Board hold fine details crisply and superbly. I've never had a problem with damage. That alone is worth the extra cost in my mind. Its easy to sell to a customer. I have some small samples of 12,15,18 and 20 lb PB which I run my finger nail into in front of a customer. (I have very tough nails) Then I ask them to try and scratch a 30lb sample. Its an instant sale every time!

We are now at the tail end of our last order and will be putting in a large order for the new Precision Board in the next couple of weeks. The new green PB is much less dusty as experienced at the ISA show last spring. It feels even denser too!

We believe in quality signs on quality materials in Yarrow...

Thanks everyone!

Jake, as Raymond mentioned, I will be happy to send you a sample of the new Precision Board Plus PBLT-18. (he was right!) You'll notice a big difference with what you've tried before.

Dan loves the 30 and 40# densities and yes, they are harder to find (though a lot more accessible lately) but are great to use.

Raymond, don't feel bad, we'll get you yet! :-) (I'm working on getting to Dan's workshop, and if so, I'll have about 4 days to spend with you.. lol)

If anyone else would like to try any of our products, please let me know and I'll send them out.

Take care, Kellie

P.S. No matter what density you're using, it's always an excellent idea to use epoxy around your fasteners. HDU is a closed cell product and screws, fasteners, eye bolts, etc will inevitably work their way out of it. If you have any questions, please give us a call. We have a great technical department.

Sorry for not putting the right letters in your name, Kellie.

It would be great if you could make it to Dan's. Four days is probably just about all you could stand of me.

You've found a gold mine in Grandpa! That guy buys PB like they were jelly beans.

Kellie is right about the epoxy around the fastners. We use West System on just about all of our HDU part assemblies and no failures yet. A few have even survived tornadoes.

Well I think I am going to try the 18lb precision board, If I could find someone around me that carried the 20 I would probably buy that. I would like to try and find someone carrying the 30 or 40 but I can't seem to or at least someone who delivers in this part of the world.

Thanks everyone.

No worries about the spelling of my name Raymond. At least you got my name right! :-) haha, just kidding. (also, you might not be able to handle me for longer than 4 days)

Jake, I have samples on the way to you and will include the higher densities. We have distributors in your area that order on a regular basis. If you would like to use a density that isn't currently stocked, we can add to an existing order that is shipping out. I'm sure they will be happy to stock once they know what size and density you'll be using.

Thanks, Kellie
