Epson Perfection V700 here. My first Epson and I'm totally happy with it. I'm not sure about scan to copy but I do scan receipts to my desktop and print them from there all the time.

I have a small Canoscan- at the time it was $800 but could scan negatives at 4800 dpi, it could scan transparencies, etc- it has been great. It's now 7 years old.
However I bought an A3 scanner via ebay, with an auto document feeder, and a SCSI interface, a year ago. Since getting that, the Canon seldom gets used. Even though it's a USB one, the SCSI is just SO fast, I mean SSSOOO FAST. I can't remember the brand- somehting uncommon but well thought of in the industry that uses it.
You can scan big photos, newspaper pages, all sorts of stuff- and the auto doc feeder can scan & save to PDF- at 40 pages per minute- it's been great where I had something I wanted to copy- just turn it on & go & make a cup of tea & come back & it's done. You can then do Optical Character Recognition on that scanned file, if you want. It was 2nd hand. Buying it without instructions was a risk. Having to get a SCSI card & set it up was something I'd not done before. HOwever, it was worth it!

I bought a Canon LiDE 600F recently at Best Buy for my home office...it is "ok" and does the job, but it doesn't hold a candle to the speed and flexibility of the Epson Perfection line.... my two cents.

Did you check to make sure it didn't get locked accidentally? There may be a slide on it somewhere that locks it for shipping. I bumped mine once and caused it to quit...

Are you kidding about a new one? Take that one back for a replacement. It's appalling the lack of decent and reliable merchandise any more.
My own problem that I am having with Admiral is the refrigerator that I inherited from my grandmother fails to keep ice cream a decent consistency. I won't stand for it.

I just bought a Kodak easy Share printer through an infomercial. Turns out if you call in instead of using the net, for the $159 they upgrade you to their top of the line all in one, Scanner, copier, printer, fax machine. I bought it as an everyday printer to replace my Epson printer which sounds like a cat in a blender so I know it's going to croak one of these days. I am getting sick of paying $30 a cartridge only to have them plug up twice a month and use a ton of ink to clean the nozzles. The Kodak pigment ink cartridges for their printers are $9.99 for black and $15.99 for five color. I haven't given it a test spin yet but if it works great it will remove the scanner and fax from my office.
Yippee, more space to collect papers.
Edit: any new scanner you get will have the speed blow you away compared to your 17 year old model.

I absolutely loved (notice past tense) our Epson printer...had it less that a year and because we didn't use it everyday the heads clogged never to be opened again...had to chuck the entire machine...oh the scanner part still worked but you couldn't print or copy anything.
Problem with Epson is the heads are independant of the Ink cartridges...and if you let them dry out...it's toast. With the less expensive printer, copier, scanner like the one I now have (HP PSC 1610) the printer head is in the ink cartridge (so you get new heads everytime you change cartridges)
Anyhow...this little desk top beauty handles legal size documents and costs under $200.00 and as much as I loved my Epson I'll never own another one for the reasons I listed...I really love my new HP (because it works).
Oh by the way...HI Nettie!

Monte, thanks for your post. I don't own a colour printer (had two Epsons) simply because I've gone through two due to dried up heads as well. I just love my HP black lasers though! But I do need colour for an upcoming project soon.
Back to colour, how often do you find you have to print with your HP to avoid losing those cartriges you just put in? Makes me think a printer/fax/scanner may be a good investment so you are forced to use it more than just for simple projects.
Not sure about most of you, but I never used the inkjet for documents for me, just for logo spec books I created for customers. I simply design in black so my stuff looks good that way and utilize my lazer for everything. Always very crisp deep blacks. A lazer just never dries out.

Thanks so very much for the feedback. I'm interested in knowing more about which version of Epson Perfection scanner to get, as I just did a search, and there are choices to make.
I have to just keep this short, as I'm on my way out, and I will be back here to let you all know what I'm going to buy. In the mean time please keep me posted with more info. It really helps!
As for printers. I have an HP lazer that I really like. I love my colour printer though and would definately recommend it. It's a Canon i960, and the cartridges have never been a problem. Uses 6 colours. The prints are great, and does real well with printing photos on photo paper.

MICROTEK, scanmaker 5900, is one of the best. wife does a lot of photo stuff. this has a NEGATIVE scanner mode then you digitally make a color photo. does something like 4800 x 2400 dpi, 48 bit color if you need it. this is a couple years old now and never has a problem. when we bought it it was under $300.00. my 1st CANON IX-4015,SCUSSI was over $400!!!! i have a small compact CANON N-656U that works flawlessly. it has a copy, email, scan mode. canon is the company who makes all the scanning mechanisms for most of the big COPIER MACHINES.
