Bruce had some guys over Saturday night for steak, corn and beer, while I was gone to dog shows.
They threw out the cobs in a bag of yard waste I had sitting on top the garden hose reel thingie.
Toby and Bobby got into it on Sunday, and ate up some corn cobs. Bobby is doing ok... but Toby ate too much!!
Worried about a blockage, Bruce brought his boy over to the clinic immediately Monday morning. He was definitely not doing well, and after spending the morning on IVs (he was very dehydrated) they had to do surgery early Monday afternoon.
He is home resting now, and we are all relieved he will be ok.
Corn cobs are the most common source of blockages in the summer, if you ask any of the Vets around here.
PLEASE make sure you toss them out in the garbage where nobody can get into it!
IF you have a dog that has eaten anything, and is acting abnormal, vomiting alot, can't keep anything down, isn't pooping... PLEASE get him to your Vet! The sooner the better!
Now... here's my shameless plug...
We were going to walk Toby in the local fund raiser for the Tri County Humane Society on Saturday. But we're gonna see how he feels by then, and if ok, then will attend, but not do the walk.
If he's not up to it, then Indy will go instead.
Here's my donation page, if you might be interested. Tax deductible, too! Thanks!! FirstGiving donation page

I forget there are some newer folks here that might not know Toby and Bobby!
Here is a photo from a couple years ago. The hairless Chinese Crested is Toby. The Pomeraniac is Bobby.
Some people who have been here a while, will remember me posting TOO many photos of Toby growing up, snoozing on the couch with his daddy DrCAS, and his competition wins.
Sorry for not being more specific!

Well, no wonder, I don't think anything wider than a AAA Battery could go through these little dogs. They are really cute. Can you imagine, these little cutie's ancestors were wolves.

Dana, thanks for the heads up. I've been giving Jenna (mid sized dog) corn cobs, but with corn ON them. She rolls them with her paw and eats up the corn but has never chewed on a cob. In fact, if I give her a partly eaten corn cob, she will grind off what's remaining and leave the cob. An eaten cob, forget it. She looks at me with total distaste like I just gave her a bag of garbage. Smart dog! But I'd rather play it safer.

I'm glad to hear he is OK, it's very obvious how much they both mean to you. My daughter's new german short haired pointer pup just went through surgery and a week of IV. They weren't sure if he was going to pull through for a few days but he got home a couple of days ago. His ended up being blockage from a bacterial infection mass. You sure can get attached fast.
