Sometimes I get confused. I see airbrushing and I think to myself, yeah, I'm an airbrusher. Then I see pinstriping, and think, I'm a striper. I see sign making and I thinks, I'm a signmaker. I see commercial vehicle lettering and of course what do I think, I'm a truck letter-er. All of this makes me confused. I don't know what I am supposed to be. And with all the new technology in the biz, it just adds to the confusion. Here I am, 24 years in the biz and 50 years old and I still don't know what I am supposed to be yet.

You know, Alicia, one of the ole timers I used to know, told me that "back when" a person could do so many things well, they were referred to as a "mechanic".
So, consider yourself a MECHANIC. There.

Don't lie to your friends; you can't be over 35!
For the last 40 years I've wondered what I would be when I grew up. I'm still wondering.

I hear you Alicia. Sometimes I think gosh if I would just concentrate on one aspect of my business I may get good at it. Slow down on the learning curves. But then a new customer phones. And I think yes, I have heard of doing something like that. Instead of just saying yes I have someone I know who would do a great job at that, no, I gotta figure it all out and do it myself. So that is how come I am a jack of all trades.........master of none.
I think I too am an artist. But perhaps I would be better to say I am a student. With many, many teachers.
Maybe I am a student artist. I don't think I will ever graduate this way. But that is me. And I have to accept it.

You are a truck letterer and striper and a sign maker, then an airbrush artist.
But you can reverse the order anytime you want. In my book, you are one of the best airbrush artists I have ever seen, right up there with the best.
Everyone does what we have to do, as far as daily work and paying the bills, but you have so much talent with images, that I think you would positively enjoy making the transition from a commercial sign endeavor, to a specialty airbrush shop.
You are one talented gal, and I don't believe the part about being 50.
If someone on this board can post a pic of the mural on your own truck, especially close ups, then folks will see what I mean.
Regards, Jeff

Alicia, I would give you this title; Journeyman Signlady. When I started out in 1960, anyone with the credintials you list was a journeyman. Since journeylady just doesn't sound right to me, I'll have to go with the title I just gave you. Jusr my 2 pennies, Love, Peace and Happiness, Don

We wear many hats all fit neatly under one hat called: Sign Artist, which also says sign painter AND artist, and most of us put our hand to many mediums in our art . . . . but what I REALLY posted on here for . . . is to ask:
Can you, or someone please post a pic of your van that Jeff mentioned?!

There was a time when I said that I was a "Sign Painter" and said it proud, that was enough for me. Now, having seen your work, and having seen you in action,...if you were a guy,....... I would have to say "your the man". But I believe that you are 100% woman, so I'd have to say " your the wo........, wombat? Even being a woman you're still "da man"!

Like Rick said, who you are and what you do are two different things....What you do can be described by one word....ARTIST ! (and a really good one too!)
As for being 50, I'm not buying that either ! But just remember, reguardless how old you are....Growing older is inevitable...Growing up is optional...and I flat refuse to grow up!
