Not that I'm crazy or anything!

I wonder if some of you nice folks could
help me find a site or two that may have some
mural looks from the 50's era.
I may not be surfin' properly with the best
description but I've tried some ephemera spots
and the library of congress and so on.
I just need some guidance.

Art/Murals in the 50's? Isn't that an oxymoron? The only people painting murals that I know of in the 50's were people like Diego Rivera that were painting powerful social commentary with a Marxist/Communist bent. I believe it was William Randolph Hearst or Rockefeller (can't remember now) who owned a hired Diego to paint a mural in the lobby. Diego painted what he wanted...client didn't like it. diego wouldn't paint over it. Client demolished the wall...it apparently had a very Marxist?Communist attitude.

So you could start by looking up famous muraliststs in history or Mexican muralists and go from there.

Murals are always being painted in every era, fame and big names not withstanding.
Are you looking for murals that have a typical 50's feel or art that was done in that period?

Judy, I can understand Hearst or Rockefeller destroying something that goes against their beliefs, but what I can't understand why hire Rivera knowing his background. They shouldn't have been surprised.

No leftie myself but I do like his mural painted at the Detroit Art Museum.

Are you referring to "ghost" signs? I think wall lettering or painted wall bulletins might be a better search criteria.

How about some of the old Foster/Klieser billboard ads. Maybe they have an archive of them ,,,,somewhere over the yellow brick road.
