OK- here's the deal, I have had this project on the back burner of my brain for a couple of years, and now it is time to get it produced. It is for the school that my wife and I work for, and they are hiring me to paint some lettering on some interior walls. At first they also wanted a small mural, but I convinced them to trust me and go ahead and get this dimensional piece produced.
The routing job is a 30 inch diameter circular logo (I have it in .ai vector format you can also open it as a pdf) with a couple of layers (the cross and book will be the ones that stick out the farthest) The letters will be slightly raised and the outside edges of the circular design will be rounded over.
I have a 3d sculpture of the eagle that will be mounted on top of the finished piece, so there is one part of the design that will be routed out slightly to hold the mounting of the eagle. (I have a rough drawing - the weird boomerang looking thing- on the finished logo that is the approximate area)
I hope this makes sense, I don't do this type of work very often, so I'm not sure how to explain it any better.
It will be an interior piece, mounted to a standard wall. I just need it routed- I can assemble, finish it and paint it. Not real particular on the material, I know some of you use stuff like Precision Board, Sign Foam, etc. (You may even have some other types of stuff laying around that might work better) I have a somewhat limited budget, but I'm not asking for a freebie or anything, it would be a paying job- but I do need to figure out shipping costs and such. I need it pretty quick to be able to get it assembled and mounted before school starts.
What's the depth of the panel? Would you like to see some kind of texture on the background or flat? Do you want your letters as seperate pieces? What's the deadline?
If the letters are cut seperately, the panel would have an thin raised impression where they would go. Just like the platform for the eagle.

Those are really good questions... I may try to play around with Xara and try to mock up what I have in mind.
The depth of the ring - maybe 2" (? i don't know what would be appropriate for that size piece.) The background center flag could be 1/2" or 3/4" deep. I figured the cross and book would be separate elements that could be assembled on top of the rest of the panel. The book could even be mounted at an angle to give it more depth. instead of cut from one solid chunk.
I was thinking that the ring background could be cut out away from the letters, maybe with a slight texture. So I don't guess I would need the letters separate.
I have to have everything finished by Aug. 10th- that's when people start coming back in the office. So that deadline might scare some of you guys off -
If I think of anything else, I'll post later
thanks

If you can't find someone a little closer to route this for you give me a call. Getting it through US customs and shipping would take a little longer than someone nearer.
I only have 30 lb Precision Board in stock so my material and shipping would be a little pricier as well.
Let me know.

Ok Dan, where are you getting your 30 lb Precision Board from? I would love to use it is well but the only supplier I've found so far sells an inch and a half 2 x 8 for almost double what a 4x8 18 lb goes for. That is a far cry from a little more. For some of your tens of thousands of dollar projects, that difference in material cost may be negligible, but on your run of the mill 4x8, that is substantial.
