I left on my daily 13 mile bike ride this morning about 5:30. By 6:00 I was in the ER with a gash in my head and fractured collar bone.
Yep, bike riding is hard for your health.
Some dogs ran out barking and biting at us, and I ran into my friends back tire. I went over the left handlebar and landed on my left shoulder followed by my head.

A few years ago a good friend was out riding and someone in a passing car threw a beer bottle at him, knocking him out cold. He spent several days in the hospital with a severe concussion. The paramedics said his helmet probably saved his life twice, the first time from the bottle, the second time from his head hitting the pavement.
Edited to add my condolences. Broken collarbones are very painful--it seems just about everything that moves attaches through that part of your body. I hope you heal up well and quickly.

Wear a helmet, it is cheaper then a cat scan. Biking is a great way to lose weight. I have lost 35# since the first of the year riding bike and watching what i eat.

nutin like a good cat scan.. and a lab report..
Just ask OP.. His cat scans him all the time looking for food. He should pelt them cats.
Plus he should get a good lab report.. He has prowlers.. If he had a good Labrador,, OP could get a good lab report whenever someone prowls his yard again...

Just don't try riding a Harley and run over a pig, what a mess! Happened to a buddy once, he said it was almost enough to make him want to give up riding and eating pork, forever.

Just rode to work,. . . with a helmet and gloves. It's Cherry Festival time in Traverse City and quicker to get around town on a bike than in a car. You still have to watch out for the idiots . . . . err. . . fudgies.

Sorry to hear that Blake! It's getting more and more dangerous on the roads.
Ten years or so ago, I bought mountain bikes for the wife and I and we started riding. There was a county park we used to go to that offered lots of good riding, hills and little traffic. One long downhill, I was coasting and turned around to look to see how far my wife was behind me. The bike drifted slightly over to the edge of the asphalt. Where the seam was there was a hole about 2 inches wide, l2 inches long and 6 inches deep....you know, just wide enough for the wheel to drop down in and STOP you cold. It did; and I went a--hole over applecart, landing on my shoulders, spread out on the street like a rug.
My wife came running, laughing and crying at the same time. She was so afraid I was hurt, but she said the sight was like something out of a Keystone Kops movie...back wheel flying up, me sailing over the handlebars..... She got much more pleasure out of it than I did. But thank God, I didn't get hurt...had my helmet on. Learned some lessons too, like keep your eyes on the road dummy. It's great to ride a bike, but be careful!

Ever had a covey of quail to flush right in front of you on a motorcycle then fly right across the road in front of you? I did; no wreck but it sure was scary. Sorry about the road rash Blake. Sounds like you need to teach the owner of those dogs a little lesson. Be creative.

Sorry to learn of that, Blake. Was it it you who posted those wonderful bike trail photos about a year ago?

been there, done that. Only quite a bit faster and on a dirt bike. My collar bone sticks up about 1 inch where it meets the top of the shoulder(separation). They heal up pretty well, but the bump never goes away. I didn't have any memory of the 2 hour trip to the ER though.
Good luck.

The dog chasing story is just what he told his wife... My buddy sent me this pic of the accident, and I don't see any dogs in the picture....
Seriously, it's a bad deal, especially right now while your new shop is being built. Hope you're able to hit it hard real soon....
