I'm new here but have already learned alot from Letterville. I have a problem with my flexi 8.5. I have some how caused all my colors to freak out. My color swatch pallet disapeared last night & when I did bring them back up my custom colors so painfully organized was gone & replaced with duller colors. That's not the worst my colors on all of my saved job files have changed as well. Needless to say I have a BIG problem. Yes,colors that use to be the right color is no longer. Can anyone help or have any idea what I may have done. Thanks

You might check the following link. Someone else is having weird problems after an XP update.

http://www.letterville.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/50578.html

Are the colors on other software still true? I'm wondering if there is some hardware issue, such as a video card going bonkers.

If you have grandkids, have they been pounding on your keyboard? That's usually the cause of my problems... but I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Did you accidentally change from an RGB to a CMYK display/colour set?

(edited to add: I'm only guessing, going by what Corel can do- I have flexi version 6)

David,

I have an older version of Flexi 7.5v2. Do you know if the upgrade to 8.5 is really worth the money?

Thanks for all the input everyone. Hope everyone had a great fourth of July because I did.Built a nice lighted weeding table & then took the family to see some fireworks. Well back to my problem with the colors in flexi. Dum me had switched it to soft proof & never turned it back. So it was my fault. Everything is good again. To answer your question Joe, I would say the upgrade is really not worth the extra money. There is few changes like upgrade drivers for new cutters & printers, compatible with Vista, & a couple other things. Everything that is every day use is the same. I'm thinking of adding adobe suite or corel but not sure which, never used either much.

For what my opinion's worth, Corel X3 is good, X4 is even better with it's new features- but I do not use the Photo editing aspects at all.

I still like my old version of Flexi, and Photoshop.

Lately I have been assembling big composite vector & bitmap sign layouts & maps in Indesign, then saving as a pdf from there, and having that file digitally printed- the results are great!

What I like about Indesign, is much like what Pagemaker was good at- when you 'place' a picture, you only add a low resolution version of the picture into the working file, so you have a small working file that's easy to edit, open or save. When you go to actually print, or make a pdf, at the right time, it goes & fetches the orignal big picture file/s and prints them in the right place with all effects etc.

You can also edit the original in Photoshop, or edit a vector file in Illy or Corel, and it'll automatically update it in the Indesign file once the changes have been saved.

$0.02 ! (maybe others have better ways, but this suits us!)

Buren,

One thing also to consider as far as Corel and the Adobe suite are concerned is that Corel costs a fraction of Adobe and seems to be every bit as powerful. Of course, Adobe PhotoShop is the Gold standard when it comes to photo editing, however, Corel PhotoPaint is no slouch.

There's plenty of experts here in the Corel and Adobe suites who can walk you through just about anything.

Joe,
Regards Flexi 8.5 being worth the upgrade.
No easy answer as in my case I had to because of my new computer had Vista. However there are several little features that do make life easier. Horizontal and vertical weedlines in Production Manager. A much better print page layout.Larger icons which work better with my new 24" wide screen. Oh and not having to worry about a dongle anymore, it uses a USB SoftKey which enables you to swap to another computer.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not use to working with AI or corel & I have heard great things about both. I think that I'm going to get AI. From what I have heard I could'nt go wrong because either way I have to learn from scratch on either. As for you Joe Flexi 8.5 is a great program & they have made some convenient upgrades & yes if you have Vista it's a must. Me personally I'm parcial to XP. If I change over none of my other computers or programs will not work with vista. Thanks for all the info & have a great day.

Welcome to Letterville Buren... I have Illustrator and Coreldraw, and I would highly recommend Coreldraw. To me, it's easier to use, faster and more intuitive.

However, like you said, you will do fine if you take the time to learn either one...

Buren,

If you're just starting on either Corel or Adobe, you might have a shorter learning curve with Corel. The interfaces are similar.
I was a huge fan of Photoshop for years, but I switched over to Photo Paint for the stability and compatibility with PS plug ins. Nothing was lost in translation and it handles my needs quickly.

Toss in the better pricing, including future upgrades, and you should make out ahead of the game.

My 2 cents...
