Laurie and I haven't had a holiday together for way to long. On Tuesday we are flying to Anchorage. We will be there for a couple of days, then it's off to Seward to catch a cruise ship bound for Vancouver. Laurie has been tending to her aunt who is terminally ill. We weren't sure if we would have to cancel the trip, but her aunt, took a positive turn for now, so we are going ahead. That gal of mine has been a tower of strength, and this vacation is exactly what she and I need. If there are any Letterheads in the Anchorage area that would like to get together, let us know. I'm looking forward to showing Laurie the Land of the Midnight Sun. Any travel tips for the area would be welcomed as neither of us have been there before.

You two have a wonderful trip! I wish Jim and I could join you! I've always wanted to take that cruise. You wine and dine that worthy girl well on this second honeymoon.

Just learn a lesson from Ricky and keep the firearms at home.
Have fun! I myself could never do a cruise. But I've heard the food is great while on one. Love....Jill

Sophie and I did an Alaska cruise nine years ago. I spent most of the time on the bow of the ship because I didn't want to miss any of the scenery. You'll have an awesome time.
We cared for Sophie's father in our house for five years before he died. We can relate to the role Laurie's filling. She needs the break. You both deserve it.
The Turnagin Arm in the Anchorage area has the second highest tides in the world, right after the Bay of Fundy. Pick up a tide chart, they're available everywhere, and drive a few miles out the Seward Highway to one of the overlooks and you might catch a tidal bore--it's an incredible sight to watch a several foot high wall of water come in with the new tide and break over the remnants of water flowing out from the low tide.
You can also drive to the Portage Glacier and through the tunnel to Whittier from the same road. If you really have time to spare, driving all the way to Homer and back is a real feast for the eyes.

Hey Duncan... just spoke to Bob Parsons and it turns out he's been computerless since last Wednesday which explains why he's been ignoring your post. Here's his number and he said he'd be delighted to see you and Laurie and give him a call anytime. # 907-223-5226

That's great news Doggie!! Stop in at the Yukon Bar in Seward; maybe you'll catch Hobo Jim there. I'm not worried about you carring firearms - you don't have any, LOL! Have a great trip.

Thank you all for the nice send off. Ricky no guns, but I must remember not to pack any Cuban Cigars with me. Have you seen the penalties for carrying anything made in Cuba into the US?

Cuban cigars??? I had the utmost respect for you up until now. If it's illegal here in our country there must be something to it. Our government obviously wouldn't boycott another neighboring sovereign country just because of some silly 60 year old ****ing contest. Bringing in a single Cuban cigar could cause major havoc on us. It's been said that Cuban cigars contribute more to global warming than anything else. When a whole box full of Cuban cigars are carried into northern latitudes even unassociated people feel the effects of it; ice hockey players suddenly get the urge to take long naps and take up figure skating. Before the embargo, there was an estimated 850,000 deaths a year directly caused by the deadly Cuban cigars. It's been long said here that "Guns don't kill people, Cuban cigars do". If given the choice between having to smoke a Cuban cigar and eating a pound of crushed up glass, I'd much prefer the latter; it's safer. It's a non-issue here in the States; Cuban cigars kill people, plain and simple. Anyone that attempts to bring in Cuban cigars into our country deserves the 10 years in jail and the $250,000 dollar fine(Canadian funds), no questions asked. For those lunatics smuggling them across our border that do not know the law, they should have thought about that before they tried to bring them in. We're not talking about something so benign as British Columbia's most famous U.S. export; we're talking death to Americans on a wholesale basis. That can not be tolerated.

Laurie and I are having a terrific time in Anchorage. We had coffee with Bob Parsons yesterday. Tonight Bob and I are going out to a Blue jam session with some of his buddies. That should be a hoot. Alaska is a wonderful place, you all need to visit here. I'll give a full report on my return.

When on your way to Seward, watch for people looking up on the mountain on the left side. That's a good indication of Dall sheep up there. Also, look for beluga whales in Turnagain arm if the tide is in. I'll second that everyone needs to visit there! Have a blast Duncan.

Thanks for the tips Ricky. Laurie and I have had a couple of meals at The Glacier Brewhouse. Great food and Ale. Jon, you wouldn't believe all the cruises coming and going from Seward. Chances are she's on a different ship, but anything is possible that's for sure no matter how Hardy Normal it may seem. LOL
