So I was rattling through my work email today and double clicked too quickly through something and Outlook froze. Since then, I can't get it to open. At all. I've attempted rebooting, restarting and nothing. It just won't open. It opens to the screen, then freezes, then after I hit ctrl alt delete to bring up an end fly out menu, it states 'msimn not responding'.
Running Windows 98 here.
Any suggestions?!? Other than upgrading the works of course. Renos come first!

Not really a solution to OE, but I can thoroughly recommend switching to Thunderbird - and it's free! You can import all your current settings, address book, etc.

Yes, lose OE and get something written for users in mind. Thunderbird is really a good one and is proven to be every thing users wanted and needed.

I just downloaded and installed Thunderbird. It took the settings from Outlook Express and recreated all my folders, including the emails inside them. Thanks Graham for the recommendation.

Donna, I've used Thunderbird for years and it's flawless, never a problem or annoyance of any kind. Just remember to compact your files once in a while if you decide to use Thunderbird. Maybe OE has some equivalent of that file compacting that you may have neglected?

Donna...You have a corruption in your Outlook Express or a conflict with your virus protection software. It isn't the easiest problem to deal with and has many possible solutions depending on your specific computer configuration. Search the web under your error message or first go to the Microsoft web site and search there with your error message.

Can Thunderbird sync to QuickBooks. I have been using the full Outlook for years and just tried a demo of the 2007 (I knew I should have left well enough alone). After carefully backing up all my contacts and emails and calander, I now can not get the 2007 verion of Outlook to uninstall completely so the original 2003 Outlook will not install properly. I refuse to go out now and buy the full version and get the impression that Microsoft did this on purpose to make anyone trying to demo to have to go out and buy the full version. Call me a conspiracy theory nut.
I'd be happy to go to Thunderbird since I already exclusiviely use Firefox b ut I need to be able to sync to Quickbooks and my Motorola Q.

No conspiracy.. Just a well known and admitted fact. They call it upgrade. Planned obsolescence.

Update: Outlook simply decided to open today. Can Outlook inbox get too full? I have alotta stuff in there, but it sure comes in useful once in awhile for backtracking.

I have over 6500 messages in my inbox with Outlook Express, and no problems. But, I'm switching to Thunderbird for a few of the extra features it has.

I use Thunderbird as well but as far as I know all email clients get a bit wobbly once you start to accumulate a lot of email. The magic figure is supposed to be 2gb but I've seen it go bad well before then. Try compacting the OE folders, this can help minor irregularities but the best bet is to cull some of the older stuff.
