Long story cut short, I'm looking for a way to get a silver/chrome finish on a non-metallic substrate. I've seen things like car badges and helmets done but without the right terminology, Googling turns up some interesting but inappropriate links. The ideal end result is a chrome-like finish on a laptop for a silver anniversary gift. (Not my anniversary BTW) Obviously any immersive/electrolytic methods would not be suitable Any info appreciated TIA, David

I was going to say Alsa's chrome too- you can , or used to be able to get the stuff at BMS-Mitre10 Hardware in Toowoomba- but it's a urethane based stuff & will need a decent 2 pack clearcoat ideally.
I think it wasn't cheap for the chrome, but any decent auto painter near Kenmore ought to have access to all the compatible primers & clears, as well as the chrome.

I bought a can of Rust-oleum "Bright Coat" Metalic Finish in chrome and it's super! It gives a very bright chrome like finish. It's cheap and easy too.

You know since this project is mainly for plastic I believe this link will help you tremendously as this product is what most all model builders use for paints. Check them out as they have the mirror finish as well as candy paints in both aerosol spray cans and bottles. I first saw this on an RC car a friend built and it was awesome, he painted it mirror chrome with a candy red finish

That was my immediate thought Jon, no worries I'll spec up an LG. Unfortunately after years of doing nothing but silver finish on their machines the closest they now do is a gunmetal grey. Thanks all.
