I made this gold leafed sandblasted sign and the client just called and wants to add two more doctors' names. Too late!!
Would you try to add the names or make a new sign to go under it? I would rather make another sign of course.

Drs. come and Drs. go. Make a pannel to cover all the names and make it with removable name plates.

Cant' find the picture, but this was the original layout. Looks pretty bland here but this piece is 16' long, fully woodgrained and stained except the 3mm dibond panels with the names. These are held in place with decorative screws in the corners. The panels also cover the main mounting bolts underneath them.
When a change is made we simply replace the painted Dibond panels.
The bottom copy/address is dimensional as are the trees, center panel pedestals and border. The whole thing is 4" thick.

 -

*Forgot to mention..... The copy is also 1/2" thick sintra letters bonded with VHB so it could be changed too if necessary.
The cool part is that the departing physician/clinic can take their panel with them as a single sign.

wayne..

I had the same situation for a car wash...they wanted to add lettering/prices...I took the signs to a place that did cabinetry, they chave off the top so they were flat again, luckily they were 2 1/2 inch redwood! I started over and charged them accordingly. It was at that point they realized that the price area should just be a solid block with vynull to be removed with changes, (Like I had try to sell them before.) Well, I don't mind doing the work as long as I am paid for it.

A Neurological Clinic charges for extra "Add-ons" that they do, I would charge them for a new sign and make the doc's names a solid block.

Just an idea, Wayne. I agree with the others that it would probably be advantageous to have the doctors' names changeable.

Could you cut the names off (grinder or chisel), use a technique like Pierre outlined to re-groove the area where the names were and repaint.

Then put a piece of clear acrylic in that spot with the names in white vinyl. You could still see the blasted effect thru the plex.

If I cut two pieces of .5" HDU. paint it exactly thesame as the border, I could glue it on with some PB240 or Gorilla glue, then apply vinyl.
What do y'all think? Would this be cheezy looking?

That layout makes sense. But, I would put more space between the two green boxes, and center a heading above each one. Right now the headings looks like they are somewhat randomly placed.

My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone.

Thanks Russ,
I can just make the panels include the headings.
I think this looks better anyway.

Mike,
The CNC is still sitting in my shop taking up space. I finished building the dustfree computer booth and got it all wired up to the machine. I have two more things to do and that is leveling/squareing the table and getting some design software (and learning how to use it).

I thought work would slow down enough to play with it again but for soem crazy reason I have been doing sandblasted redwood signs one after the other.... just finished two jobs, closed on another one today and have to begin pulling the permits. I sent in a quote on another yesterday...this is weird because I've been making HDU ones for about 5 years straight and didn't care if I ever did another redwood sign. Now this one has to be re-done or added to.
But I'm going out there right now to align the rails on that shopbot.

tell them to stop listing all the drs. WHO CARES!!! people are not looking for drs they are looking for the clinic itself. you can read all their names on the bottom anyway unless its right by the door

Wayne.......I've ran into this several times. I just rip the sign on the table saw & add a piece with the extra text. As long as you blast your new piece to approximately the same depth.......no problem.
I've done this with phone # changes as well.
Next time they change, take the whole area down flat with the CNC & add panels then.
