I am using Corel X3 (home and work). When I type in text it is never the size specified. Ex.- if I type at 1"(specified in size box) it is always like .7" actual height (or less)
I understand that some fonts may have shorter characters than others ... but it is never right.
A 1" capital "H" is... .65" in Arial Black... .71" Arial, Franklin, Tahoma, Times
Is there a setting I screwed up or something? (I don't remember an "almost" check box)
Thanks in advance

I just type in the text, draw a box around it at the "inch" height I want and expand the text to align with the top and bottom of the box. (Then delete the box)

The height of a font is determined by the tallest character in use.
For example - Although barely noticed in most cases, a capital "O" or "U" is often slightly taller that the rest of the font's characters and the height will be set by it. Lower case descenders and ascenders have the same effect on height when resizing them.
At one inch height, the variance is negligible, but on larger scales, it can become apparent. In those cases, I convert the text into curves, break it apart and resize the individual characters as needed.
Hope this helps... Rapid

Mark, Someone once told me that Corel font sizes included the leading (back around Corel 1 days). If you consider/include this, then the font sizes seem to work out closer to what you expect. Havind said that, I usually do what Dave suggested.

Si...That suggestion has been put forth many times in the past and it doesn't work.
Try typing an all caps word like "OVAL". Set the size to one inch as you suggest. Then draw a box around the word. It will actually be around .714" high (in Ariel normal)at the flat topped letters.
Even a lower case word with ascenders and descenders doesn't come in at 1" overall. Neither does a lowercase word with a first letter capital.

Type a letter that doesn't drop below the baseline, like H.
Go up to your property toolbar & set the height to 1". That finds the right pt value to give you a 1" letter. (for arial, it's 100.584)
Click on the text & keep typing. It'll maintain that pt size. If you are typing HOT, then it will be a bit more than 1" overall, because the O is suppose to extend above & below the H in order to look the same size. If you're typing HIT (why in all caps, I don't know), it will be exactly 1" tall.
If this doesn't answer your question, then I'm confused as to what your question is.
