I thought I'd post this address for those who are interested in digital routing models. It seems these wax models are made in Asia, then scanned.

Joe some of those models are incredible. Not a bad price either. No doubt they were scanned and created have you bought from them?

Real Nice. Have you bought any. I am real curious on how they route. May have to buy one and try it.. I really like the Floral.

Downloaded a few samples. Not bad. They do suffer from some of the same problems that the other clip sites. Seems when they are scan them they are using a 2 1/2d Scanner Like my Picza instead of a laser scanner (Like the Next Scanner. Soon to be acquiring) so they are not getting any of the back detail or undercuts. Not a huge deal as most people will route in 3 axis anyway and just hand clean the undercuts.
But would be nice to get the .STLs in a full 3D so you can dissect them into fronts and backs allowing you to create a multi-part model and then assemble from there.

I know, I am nitpicking

John,
Depends on what software you are using. In Artcam yes you would import them into your design and place them where you would want or what we do.
Is we usually will machine it as a seperate piece then attach it after as a appliqué. This way seems to work better for us as it easier to work on smaller parts then assemble everything in the end.

I've not run any yet. They have free sample. I'll try to give them a go this weekend.

John

You'll need a 3D program for this function. Two of the best are ArtCAm and Enroute. Pricey.

My Artcam dealer, Gary Beckwith, wwwbeckwithdecor.com has downloaded their sample and reports they are a little grainy. Much like what Bill suggested. However, when working on HDU that shouldn't be any problem.

I've never seen a 3D routed file yet that couldnt be imporved with a sharp chisel. For me that's a natural process. Rather than using little bity bits with even littler stepovers, I'd rather rough the thing out and finish up by hand.

It's just my way of getting the job done.

Well, if Joe says it will work...it will work. Looking forward to seeing what Crumley does with a sample.

Since I use ArtCam Pro I just might have a whirl at one also.
