Phone support? Na, they didn't pay the bill. So now I sit waiting for e-mail response, While I'm sure they are grilling on the Barby.
It's not that I am in the middle of a LARGE project with MULTIPLE signs. With a close to impossible deadline.

Guess you really do get what you pay for .
To the lurkers....spend the money of Flexy or signlab or anything other than this mess.

Ya thanks , great advice
But I guess that will be my only option is rebuild 11 signs in another software so that I and others that are waiting for files can proceed. Shouldn't take long. Contour panels, 3 or 4 fonts per panel, dropshadows, outlines, scroll elements....
Ya, I'll just whip them up
Have no choice since it's been FIVE *&^%$# HOURS and no response from them in anyway or form
Steve and Barb, If for some ungodly reason this company ever request being a merchant here, I will pay you the $500 to NOT let them.
Let this be a BIG warning to the newbie out there. Ya, there software is cheap and it does great. But when you have problems and you need them to fix something fast, you will be screwed. And THAT is the reason that I will be NOT be using nor recommending them anymore.
I'm just a grain of salt in the big picture for Future corp. But placed in the right place it can still burn like hell...

Sure, they cost a little more...but I sleep at night and don't have the experience that Jake has. Sorry, Jake.
Also, just for information - 3M High Performance Vinyl, Porter Acrylics, ShopBot Flat Bed Router, and Corafoam HDU (still use SignFoam 3 and Precision Board, too)

Jake, I know how you feel as I have had problems in the past, uninstalling, reformating and re-installing. In case you didn't know this, but their home base is in Australia and when we are up, they are sleeping.
I always wanted to get the dongle(s) so I wouldn't have to go thru this again but never did (I have 2 reg. copies of the software).
Hey Shaun, aren't you the owner of the company? Can you give us letterheads a discount on the dongles?

RE: OLD VERSION OF VMP
As mentioned I have sent you some info on the email...
The problem you have relates to some weird change Microsoft did in 2001 to Windows which meant that for around 50% of users when the time changed so did their Computer ID # which kicked out their registration... since the registration was hard coded into the program it meant a big job to fix it so we decided to introduce a Dongle to overcome these type problems when using numbers!
So in affect the problem you’re having relates to a very old version of your software which we completely fixed 4 years ago now that is no longer a problem with later versions of VMP…
Thanks,

So why not post some kind of instruction on the website so users of the older versions can get back online?
And it is known that M$ made developers adhere tighter to the developer standards. That essentially meant that code writers who did not follow guidelines would find a problem when later updates were released.

We do have specific instructions on the registrations page flashing in red and blue!
All that’s happened to Jake is that he’s registered so many times he’s trigged off an alarm bell on our server – which we’re resetting for everyone with the old version to avoid this being a problem.
What amazes me here tonight is how unrealistic some folks are with software support...
Jake has what is equivalent in age to Adobe Illustrator V9, Corel Draw V10 or Windows Me – I know from my own experience that if you gave these folks a call for support for these old versions of their software you wouldn’t get very much i.e. none…

Your right.. But, those packages don't lock any one out from their work either..

But that's my point - Jake got a call from me and email about the problem today and we're on it... he hasn't been ignored or left on his own even though his version is several years old... the only problem was that he had the wrong phone number?
I was writing about the other comments here and replying to Curtis...
Give Corel a call in the AM and ask them for help with CorelDRAW V9 and see what they say? Oh and make sure you have your credit card handy!
Thanks,

Not these days they won't! try and activate Illustrator CS3, XP or Vista on lots of different computers using the same Code on the CD cover... you'll find they won't let you.

For someone who's never owned Omega, you sure are quite the expert, OP.
Fact is, Omega is pretty darn solid. Its been "YEARS" since I've had any issues.

I have to stick up for Shaun here. He sells a great product for fractions of what Signlab or Flexi go for. I had all the same problems and then purchased the dongle....works great now. I have my original flexi I purchased when I got into business 13 years ago and paid a couple thousand. That version hasn't worked in 4 years as windows ME was the last operating system it worked on. Flexi does't care, they will upgrade me for a couple more thousand. For $150 I got the dongle and was up and running again with VMP. I know it is frustrating when you call and can't get a person on the phone but within a day or two Shaun or someone has always solved my problem. DONGLE DONGLE DONGLE!

As shaun has said earlier, he called yesterday. Unfortunately, I was pulling in my driveway at home...... at 8:00....so Didn't get much done. Came in early this morning and tried going thru the registration system...again.... and finally got a number that would unlock it...this time....we'll see.
I guess this dongle thing is easy fix? If you have $160 to buy one.
Not trying to stir the pot any more than I already have...BUT.... I'm thinking an EASIER fix for the folks that have OUTDATED software and don't really have $ 160 for a dongle (whatever the hell that is, sounds dirty though) would be a customer support line that can help people from anywhere....at anytime. If your gonna sell a product to the whole world, it just seams like it would make sense to be available to the market on THEIR timezone also. just my 2 cents.
Shaun I have saved your contact number and and e-mail for future problems. Hoping there aren't any.

I would honestly think that $160 is worth the 2.47 years you just took off your life expectancy with that rant.... Hahahahahahahahahaha!

I have an old version of VMP and I found the easy way to get out of trouble when daylight saving hits is reset your computers clock to back before daylight saving starts/finishes. I know it may not be convenient but if you need to get work out it there's no stress.

Shawn's absolutely right. The expectations that 4-6 year old software will be supported seems prevalent, but hardly realistic. Buy a Nintendo Wii, new car or HDTV and see how long the warranty lasts. "Eternal support" is what many of us would like, but eventually there comes a time when it just isn't feasible for the manufacturer anymore.
The same goes for end users. The old adage "NOTHING LASTS FOREVER" comes to mind. I have been using CorelDraw since version 3 and I still have the disks around here somewhere, but to believe that I would NEVER upgrade since then would be nonsense. MS Windows has changed too much and I certainly never wanted to keep my 3.11 and watch the rest of the world leave me in the dust.
IMHO, so many of tend to look at buying an upgrade as a "cost" rather than an investment, we miss out on the benefits ( and often additional income) that we gain with more modern and stable computers. Why risk the same situation as Jake, who has all that work and downtime to deal with, when a couple of hundred bucks can only help you do your work more efficiently?
Think about this as well... One good paying job...just one...can usually cover the cost of an upgrade. Still think you can't afford to get it?
The money spent is not "cost", but an investment into your productivity. At worst, what you save on aggravation and downtime probably justifies an upgrade when needed.

Support for older software isn't the problem. Its being locked out of a legally purchased package via an onerous system lock with a slow response to get it unlocked is the pain.

Right on, Rapid!
For OP's benefit, I would like to add that you cannot expect a 2000 model of anything to perform like a new one. Technology changes everyday, advancements are made, and upgrades ARE necessary. Sorry Dude.

FONTS was $100 each, cadlink card, was $3-400, then i needed GA 6.0(did i ever tell how crappy i think that program is, i been using corel for while when i played with GA6)FOR ANOTHER $3000. I PASSED ON THAT ONE....found me a roland PNC-1000, got LETTER ART 5.0 with it, for $1600.00. and NOT USING THE LETTER ART program i was cuttin vinly the evening i picked it up OUTA COREL 3.0 and had access to ALL THE FONTS ON MY COMPUTER!!!! thennnnnnnnnn....3-4 yrs later, another sign painter friend of mine, called and asked me to help set him up with computer & vinyl. WELLLLLLLLL he musta took the deal i turned down. it was a GERBER SPRINT, and by the time he was set p and cutting he was into a NEW COMPUTER, GA6, and to the tune of $6-7000!!!!!!!! so ive had 4-5 version of corel sine then, ive moved up to a CX-300 ROLAND... still cuttin from COREL...and with all my upgrades I STILL AINT INTO IT FOR THAT KINDA MONEY. so do i have any experiance with GERBER....not really, i never got GERBERIZED!!!

Sorry Joe I paid $17,000. for my first Gerber set up...I've updated it twice to the tune of around $6,000.00 all the equipment is still running after 15 years...it has never let me down and I can truthfully say I've never been down a day because of Gerber...
I love the product the service and reliability.
I can't bad mouth any one elses product (because I've never had another) I just know I got what I paid for and it's made money for me ever since the first day it was in the shop.
Just thought Gerber should get a good rap for a change!

I too have ran GSP for 15years two plotters software and router.
The only problem I have ever had has been my fault, loading software wrong and trying to trick the router into something it should not be doing.
I have Corel, AI and PS CS2 but still locked on what I am fast at Gerber.
