Who wants to give me FREE lessons on pinstriping? You may call me at 541-660-1092

Of course you'll have to come to my place to instruct me as I very rarely leave southern Oregon except for emergencies. I think I can catch on pretty quick and maybe even offer a few pointers in whatever it is that I supposably do.

My life has taken a dramatic turn as I've been devastated by the death of my nephew just last Tuesday which has left me a state of mind I never thought I'd feel. By the end of April and the summer coming I will need these lessons or I will become a vegetable. My nephew Anthony who was only 50 had just bought Jerry Mathels house here in Grants Pass and was to move there shortly. Anthony had a massive heart attack behind the wheel while driving back to L.A.

I am totally heartbroken and cannot express myself in the way I usually have taken care of things throughout my life.
If things go on like the way I feel at this time, I really don't know where I'll find the strength to get on with my own life. Feel free to call me in regards to helping me re-adjust to the craft I hold so dear to me for the past 50 years, I really need the lessons and will return to southern Oregon after things are taken care here in L.A.

Prayers help but not as well as hands on instruction

Joey

I am so sorry for your loss! The good book speaks of "a friend sticking closer than a brother" Obviously you two were close. I hope that as time heals your wounds, you can gain comfort from your good memories. I have never met you, but I have always enjoyed our phone conversations.

Makes all of us rethink our priorities...what is TRULY improtant.

We'll talk soon, take care Bro. [Group Hug]

Hi Joey,
a friend nearby is going through something similar, and he's having awful fits of depression and loneliness. He thought he could handle it on his own, mentally, but is now taking antidepressants, and is feeling a little better. About all I'm good for in his case is company & a talk. I'd like to think he'll come good, but I'm not so sure he'll ever be 'normal' again- his situation was the result of a big loss after a teenager drove into the back of his vehicle at high speed.

Anyway, that's not meant to make you feel worse, just to say I would help if I were closer-having somebody to be able to spend time with does help. I'm sure you will get better. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss though.

As for teaching you- well, from 1/2 a world afar, the best I can do at the moment is offer these little videos for your amusement- at last year's Letterheads-oz meet in October, of me using an old Mack dual-striper brush- filmed by Patrick Smith. (probably the portfolio section would be a more appropriate place, but here is a most appropriate time to put them up anyway.)

I will eventually put up a page of explanations on our website, but for now, here are some files to just watch and enjoy- minus explanations!

Warning- some are a bit big-but the smaller ones are a bit fuzzy.

This is a 12 meg file, striping a cart wheel spokes, going both forwards and backwards- there are times when it is necessary to do both ways:

http://www.traditionalsigns.com/assets/images/striping%20movies/dualreversei1min12.mpg

This is a shrunk version of that same file- not as clear, but only about 1.5 meg, not 12 meg:
http://www.traditionalsigns.com/assets/images/striping%20movies/dualreverse-1min12-reshrunk.wmv

This is striping forwards for the whole length of the spoke- about 5.5 meg:
http://www.traditionalsigns.com/assets/images/striping%20movies/dual-two-spokes-fwds-short2.mpg

And finally, this is striping around a hub band- it's a 6 meg download:

http://www.traditionalsigns.com/assets/images/striping%20movies/hub-band30secs.mpg

I hope they all workout OK, and I hope YOU work out OK, sincerely.

Must have been real hard to come here and type that Joey.

I wont tell you it will be alright or any fluff like that. Just it does suck a bit less each day.

But it still sucks!

Wow Joey, I'm really sorry to hear of your loss my friend. Seems I've been losing a lot of friends, loved ones and others that I have known for some time lately. Sure makes a person consider their own mortality.

There sure isn't anything I could teach you about striping, just a recomendation to get one of those Killer Karts; I hear they are awesome for pinstripers.

I doubt you'll need to re-learn striping, Joey. It's a part of you now. Even through this loss, you'll go on. Somewhere in the Bible is a passage that goes something like 'the Lord doesn't put anything on us that we can't go through'.

Many times when I'm feeling down, I go out to the shop and start striping a panel. I keep several blanks made up. It calms me, takes my mind off what is troubling me, and I guess just watching the design come together gives me a sense of peace, in the creation of it.

God bless you, and you will be in my prayers.

When feeling down, it's always helpful to look up - to discover the peace, love and hope that God has created all around us.

Time and quiet meditation goes a long way to healing a wounded heart. Look for something positive and inspiring everyday as you work through your grief.

A lot of people are praying for you and knowing that, in itself, should provide some measure of comfort... as you move through the natural course of experiencing loss. Better days lie ahead.
