I wanted to know if anyone had any strong feelings, opinions or critiques of Mimaki plotters, specifically the CG desktop series. I was wondering how these fall in line with other name brands like Summa and Graphtec. Thanks for the input!!

I don't know much about the quality of them, Chris; but I did try to find out. I recently went thru a couple of days of grief with a supplier who told me this plotter would work with my Flexi. It won't. I'm still running 7.0
So now I'm waiting another week for my Graphtec to get here.

I had a CG6 for several years Chris and it was a good one. When it bit the bullet I bought a new Mimaki, took it out of the box and it was like some cheap plastic toy. I took it back and bought a Summa D60. I couldn't be happier.

I have a CG75FX (30") on a stand. Very happy with the pressure settings and blade adjustment vs my Gerber with the swivel & dial. It doesn't track the prints from the printer real well over 6' though. Any tracking over 8' is a bit touchy, but I don't do much of that. The Gerber Envision 48 that I used to run would track flawlessly for an additional 10k in price! I can run Omega, Corel & Illustrator cut files just fine. The Fine Cut software is really basic compared to Omega, but I have not yet had an issue. Bought mine used off of e-bay, too.

I have a Mimaki CG-6 that I have been using since 1996. It has been a workhorse, however I did have to buy a motherboard for it not long after I bought it. Judy

We had a sub contractor let us use one and we couldn't get the print cut alignment to work well at all.
What is the attraction to it that makes you ask? We're in the market for a 64" plotter that can align properly for print/cut and are torn between Graphtec and Summa. Why Mimaki?

Thanks everyone. I had available to me a 24" CG series at a good price, and wanted to get some opinions. My gut feeling is to spend the extra dough and get my #1 choice- a Summa, even though they no longer offer a 24" model, they start at 30". I operate one everyday at my current job, nonstop, and it is amazing. Never a problem, tracks great, and from what I have heard, great customer support, although I have never had to call them. Paul, there was a post at Signs101 (by someone from SignDesign in Brockton) in need of a plotter able to contour cut large format prints, and the advice from everyone was OVERWHELMINGLY to get a Summa, which he ended up doing. you can probably contact him to find how it worked out.
