My daughter asked me to design a logo for her new softball team in San Francisco, the Crew. She's been a ball player since she was 6 years old and wanted to play in a rec league out there, so she saw an ad looking for players and called about trying out for the team.
When the team captain explained that it was an all-gay league, she asked if you had to be gay to play. He said if she didn't have a problem with it, she was welcome to try out. Once they saw her rocket arm, they immediately invited her to be their third baseman - the only (real) girl and the only straight person in the whole league.
The team had a fundraiser at the aptly-named Lookout Club this weekend, a gay bar in the heart of the Castro district. Like I've done for all her teams over the years, I made a banner and decided it might be fun to deliver it personally and attend the fundraiser, since Peggy was working a one day trip to SF Easter Sunday.
The team members and their supporters were extremely friendly and appreciative (some were almost TOO friendly, if you get my drift) Here's Jessica with some of her Crew:
Apparently, any holiday in the Castro district is seen as a good excuse to "dress up" and Easter is no exception. These are some of the team's "cheerleaders"
It was great fun and totally different from how I usually spend a Sunday afternoon. I was also glad we left before dark........

Great looking sign. I'd like to see when the "Cheerleaders" got to stop and, you know, adjust things.

Glad Jess is getting to pitch. Don't know if we'll make it to any of her games. I think the banner would read better if the loop on the W gets filled solid.

Hi Debb, Nice to see you back in Letterville - I didn't paint any faces but they were definitely a fun bunch.
Sorry Rick - it was a freebie and it's already at the printer's - no mo revisions.
I hope nobody took this post as any form of gay-bashing. I've always encouraged Jessica to explore this world and its unique inhabitants. We enjoyed meeting her teammates and their friends and we're looking forward to catching at least one of their games. I'm very proud of my daughter for not judging books by their covers.....
