Can you please tell us what you used for the finish on the panel you so beautifully hand crafted for Fred?

Thanks for your time [Smile]

Sure Ellen,

The stain is made by mixing 1Shot with Low Temp Reducer.....about 30%. (When only one or two drops of "stain" run off your mixing stick, then its about right.) I rub it on with a small pad made by folding a cotton rag. (The imatation shamie cloth is the best!)

 -

The clear is Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane (gloss.....semi gloss is available too.). I apply it with a foam brush. The first coat is very thin and dries in about 4 hrs. Scuff with 220 grit and fine scuff pad. The next 3 coats are normal coatings with scuff in between and about 4 hrs dry time each. (I only had 3 coats on Fred's.....ran outa time.) I'll wait 48hrs before I will mask and carve. (Unless I'm rushed....lol)

 -

It works for me for 2 reasons. 1. It's compatable with the mixture that I use for my color stains that I use on the actual carvings (like the tree in the pic ).....nothing else is. 2. When I give instructions to customers on how to "refresh" [Smile] THEIR signs, they can find this stuff anywhere and they are familiar with the brand. Pluss this stuff works!

I tried to be short....honest! [I Don t Know]

Hope this is helpfull.

joe,

Makin Chips and Havin Fun!
