Pierre, Myers and the rest of you paint slingers will enjoy this one and understand the feeling.
Peeling off the vinyl.
2 1/2 hours later.
The small ad is vinyl that was left on.
This guy has about a dozen race cars. The ads are all pretty much the same on all of them, a little airbrushing, nothing extraordinary but IT'S PAINT!!!!!!! No computer, no patterns. Just me a yardstick a Staedtler and a Coke case. Yes, Pierre, life is good I used Dupont's new Hot EFX striping urethane on this job. I've striped with this stuff a little, this is the first lettering I've done with it and it works very, very nice.
The red has some airbrushed highlights with a silver outline and a gray shadow. I like using silver and gray together, it creates some neat effects.
For you drag fans, I'm not sure what class this thing is but it runs naturally aspirated, no bottle and turns mid eight 1/4's and it's street legal!

Hey George, I like the way you did the grey shade, having it drop down the vertical, fat, it really "blocks it out", as the people say!

Excellent! Looks a million times better than the original. Did a bit of hand-lettrin' on a race car myself yesterday. It is great fun. Also wasn't it cool not having to worry about creases around that pesky gas cap? Love.....Jill

I LOVE IT!!! I had a friend ask me if I could get some vinyl letters for his bike, I told him I would letter it for free, just so he didn't have stickers on his nice Kustom bike.
Is that paint a Urethane? Are you on my way from Raleigh, NC to Denver, CO? I would love to stop by and meet you!

George, tell me more about this urethane Do you use a quill? Does it harm the brush? WHat do you clean up with? Does it have a gloss? Do you think the reds will hold the color out in the sun? I hate to need to learn over, but the lettering colors today seem so disappointing. Thanks for the education.

Rick, I've only had the Dupont for a few weeks and I'm still learning about it. I'm hoping to do an article about working with urethanes. I'll try to answer you questions the best I can.
On this job I used three different size quills, I think a 4 a 16 and a 20 or 22 and a small synthetic liner.
Does it harm the brush? I guess time will tell on that one but we have been using various urethanes for the past four years and as far as I'm concerned urethanes are no harder on brushes than the enamels. I know some guys will argue with me on that one but that's been our experience.
We clean the brushes with lacquer thinner. I know this too is frowned on but again I never saw any appreciable difference between lacquer thinner and mineral spirits as far as brush life went. Some last forever some die overnight.
As far as gloss goes, the Dupont EFX is excellent! As good or better than One Shot and far better than HOK or Xotic. I was most impressed. The silver brushed out better than anything I've ever used.
As far as durability...again time will tell on that one too. Back when I painted cars, I always favored the Dupont brand and would believe that this paint would be as good a product as everything else they put out. I do know that the HOK urethanes hold up far better than One Shot.
The Dupont urethane is more like One Shot than any of the other urethanes as far as brushability. On the down side, like all urethanes, it requires the use of the isocyanate catalyst. It also smells pretty bad. More so than HOK, about the same as Xotic. It's an automotive paint and smells like it.

This is the paint that Dewayne Connot and Paul Quinn were using at the World of Wheels car show that I was at. The colors are nice, very similar to 1S. I didn't get a chance to try it because I wasn't able to attend the third day. It has its own accompanying line of thinners and stuff, and smells pretty "hot". But it looked great, and they were using their regular brushes with it. Love.....Jill

I'm also interested in this DuPont urethane. I assume it is available from DuPont jobbers; is it sold in small cans? Some practical advice, please. And thanks for the inspiration!
