Hi all. We jsut got rewarded a job and are ordering some waterjet cut aluminum letters from Gemini. My customer is assuming responsibility of getting the permit but, is really anxious for her lettering.
is there anyone that could give me some in sight (or perhaps a version) of a disclaimer that she can sign that states she is still responsible for purchasing our letters regardless of sign permit approval??
Always looking out for Murphys Law. We are pretty convinced the permit will go through but, are always getting better at protecting ourselves as well.
Thank you very much for your time and help.

You are ordering Gemini letters and didn't get a downpayment from her to cover the cost? That would have been my first question. I also wouldn't order anything without getting a permit FIRST. I've been stung with this one before! NOT happening again.

Always make sure permit and or variance has been approved before ordering any materials or fabricating any part of the project as well as collecting deposit of at least 50% of the total amount.

Trust me, I have been a member of both a Planning Board and a member of a Board of Appeals in my local community and have seen applications brought before both boards that were denied.

Make sure you have a copy of the permit in your hands as customers will tell you they have applied or have the permit in their hands when in fact they have not applied for permit or variance!

I hate it when people think they can just "return" something that they "custom ordered."

That is the point of "custom ordering something."

Also, when they change their mind halfway though the project and don't want it anymore and want their cash back.

I have no answer but to say that the credit card machine is my new best friend, along with the contract that says, "You ordered it, you pay for it. We're not Burger King. "Have it your way" means pay up or else.

"We've got people."

Too many catch phrases. I'm crabby & ready for bed.

Try to order anything without paying for it first in regular day-today life, let alone walk out of a business with an item "purchased" without paying for it....try it sometime...you get tossed in the clink...it's called shoplifting or theft and it doesn't matter if it is Wal-Box or my shop.

She ordered them and THEN decided to take on the burden of the permitting and zoning. I am not responsible if it does or doesn't go through, besides Gemini letters come in like 3 days???And you can get rush shipping, even to Canada.

If they can't get the cash then I can't do the work, because they obviously didn't plan far enough in advance. No dough...no go. I am not going to finance someone else's indecision or ill-preparedness. Kinda being a bad ass but I got burned too many times being "nice."

Life is great in 2008!

I would ask for 100% up front before placing the Gemini order.

You can put the install on a separate invoice.

If the town requires a change or modification, It will come back onto you in one way or another.

I would STRONGLY suggest to your client that they wait for the permit.

Get the Money or wait for the approval.
