I have a customer that wants a 3' x 20' banner for a parade. This seems too big to me.
Has anyone have any suggestions on the size of a hand held banner should be?
I am also thinking that a PVC pipe could be put through a top pocket to hold the banner.

I'm thinking more like 10' long, 12' max.
Anything bigger/longer may sag in the middle when carried.
An overhead banner that runs across an entire small-town city street is usually 20'-25' tops.
The ones I see are usually sewn felt ones.
(I love a parade)
But I can see the sense in a normal vinyl banner with a pole-pocket top. And PVC would make a good lightweight but sturdy handle, I would even cap the ends.

Unless he has about ten people holding it it may not work. I've always tried to sell them a 2ft x 6-8 ft banner, sometimes with sticks on each end so that 2 people can hold it up, much like a flag person would do in a parade.

Yes, a 2' height would be much more manageable to more people as well. Think of the inseam length on most people's trousers, about 30".

I've made quite a few usually 24"-32" tall by 72"-108". Pole pockets on top and bottom.
A 1.5"to 2" long PVC pipe in the top that sticks out 18" or so for the people to hold, and a smaller one the length of the banner in the bottom pocket to help hold it down.
