Freedom of speech does not exist here. Nor does it exist on any other website run by someone else.
Being a resident does not entitle you to any extra benefits as far as being a knob. Being a resident grants you a few benefits not available to non-residents such as the Monthly Prize Draw and and the enrollment package. There is no entitlement here.
I have had some things I posted that I, in retrospect, should have kept to myself deleted. I got over it. I suggest you do the same.
Have a great one!

What special right do graphic artists receive Stephen? Your exercise in freedom of speech devolved into nothing but bitter words between two people.
Sugar coating it into platitudes doesn't change that.

Stephen, I can well understand why your post has been deleted and I think you can too. a personal attack on someone is not welcome on the board for very long. Nice of you to become a resident after 3500 posts but it doesn't give you the rights you seem to be looking for.
Your record here has been one long list of snipping remarks when you aren't trying to help out fellow letterheads. Why is that, why do you feel the need to have a go at others. just do a search, like I have, to read your past acid comments. Then you might understand why there aren't many people lining up to back you up.
I would like to see you posting more of your work on the portfolio section as that billboard you posted was great to see. I can't imagine it as a pounch pattern. more of your work might be better than more of your words.
I expect you will feel the need to respond to me personally but know that is it nice to be nice rather than nasty.
chill.

Like Darcy, I'm not buying your argument. If you wanted to send a message to just the Shortreeds why not use email? No offense really, but you really are out there in your comments. Maybe Gavin was on to something.

I'm all for free speech, but there are limits. This is Letterville. We are a Community of Letterheads. It's esential all of us know just what that means.
The main reason, we gather is because we all claim to share a mutual love for the sign business. As Letterheads, we also strive to preserve the best of our past and embrace new technology together.
Barb and I are hosts of this particular meet. Sorry Stephen. It's our house. I'm sure you have house rules you expect people to respect when attending functions at your own home.
We learned many years ago that a Community cannot survive and flourish if they are constantly bickering and debating with each other. Those that attempt to use this forum as a soapbox to attack ot attempt to ridicule others are going to have a tough time.
That includes everyone. Residents, Visitors, Friends, Candians, Americans and Albanians! I even banned my Mom from the website. Just kidding....she changes my diapers.
You are an interesting guy Stephen. Some may even use the word eccentric. Don't let that bother you. In this wacky Community of artists, there are many proud to be eccentric. I march to a different beat myself.
I know you take great pride in your role as a **** disturber. We have a few of these characters already walking the streets of Letterville. Over the years, most have learned to funnel their love of stirring into more constructive posts. If your posts are not helping anyone, it's waste of time and bandwidth.
If anyone has a message that is directed towards an individual, please do not use this Forum. Pickup the phone or use e-mail.
I do have a question. This whole deal started out over some dumb barcode post. To be honest, the whole discussion went right over my feeble head. What really drives me nuts is that I have this feeling you actually have a point. Am I in a Sherman and Peabody cartoon?

I enjoy reading Stephens posts. They are "off the norm" but interesting to say the least. If everyone was the same, it would be pretty boring.

Stephen . . . I commend you for your sheer 'objectivity'. You have, obviously, an inate ability to see both sides of an issue, and take genuine pleasure in hearing everyone's ideas and input, not for the sake of argument. Understood. But for the exploritory journey. It's just fun. However, you must retain a grip.
As a person who is objectively, like-minded, I must tell you that thru many perils and errors I have made the significant discovery in life that the majority of people will assume a definite side on most any issue with only slight objectivity, and often, not necessarily even relative to the issue, and even when relative, some are indeed completely void of objectivity.
Therefore, the challenge becomes the ability to love and accept all manner of people even when they blow your mind with a seeming reluctance to understand or 'play' with arbitrary ideas.
The real gift of Letterville is actually knowing these people in real life. There's where the fun begins. This site is just a notebook to check in at until there's a meet you can attend.

My very first experience with Bar Codes goes back to 1972. That year we got a subcontract to repaint all of DuPont Canada's rail cars which they owned. All of those rail cars had on them, a patch about 12" square on which there were strips of reflective tapes in various lengths and colours. This patch was positioned at a specific height on each rail hopper car, so that a beam of light could be projected onto the car and be "read" by a TV camera. Apparently this reflective Bar Code was the railway's way of keeping track of which train was connected to which car....it's last point of travel, and direction. Essential information for shippers' inquiries.
The point of all this ? Bar Codes are meant to be read by electronic devices, and not the average human eye. Certainly, they are a means of Graphic Communication, and are no doubt extremely useful, but they're somewhat like becoming a Master of Dead Languages. One might know everything there is to know about a dead language, but what practical use is that knowledge if there is no one to converse with
It's a specialized area of knowledge designed to foster efficient communication among machines. Hell, I haven't even mastered the art of communicating with "Voice Mail", but somehow there I'm expected to believe there is an advantage in learning the language of scanners, and optical readers?
I think that I'm having enough just to be able to communicate in the words and images that most of society can recognize and appreciate.

Russian Blue? Like the cat with you in your picture, Stephen? I guess I'm not a literate "bar code reader", but I do know Russian Blues. Is that your pet?
