I had waited until now to ensure our decision was sound. This post is an appropriate start:
Folks: The Hudson Wisconsin 2008 Hullabaloo is cancelled.....
Not enough juice in my head to sum up all the why's but bottomline: It wouldn't have been a successful enough venue to make it warrant the additional time and $ required. Thankfully we have plenty of options to choose from this year with other meets.
Thanks to all the supporters, mentors, and friends that backed our interest.

That's a big bummer. Was looking forward to coming back to the old stompin' ground. But money and time talks. Thanks for letting us know sooner than later.

Only you know your own mind Matt, and I fully understand your reasoning, but this is a sad day.
Hosting an International is a huge endeavor.
I do appreciate your letting us know so soon. Now I won't have to worry whether to take a plane or a train, and I won't have to save up. Love....Jill

Mr. Rolli, You have made a wise decision. I am sorry that it will not be happening, but I TOTALLY understand the "behind the scenes" of running a large meet. Matt, you can hold yur head high for the effort. What matters most is that you saw the shortcomings and got out before it really bites you in the butt. It's much more than helping the Letterhead cause.....it's keeping marriages alive, keeping businesses alive.
Folks, there are other meets to attend, Matt would have ran one hell of a meet, no question. He has a new large facility, employees, 2 small children. He'll be back, don't count him out!
Matt has also traveled to Greece, and Scotland and been active with my meets here in Mazeppa, these last three meets I have just mentioned have all been fantastic meets, great times! But the sad reality is, they all lost the host ALOT of money. Until a different way can be instilled, this has to thought over and re-done to a way that we can all get back to the way it was.....
It ain't no big deal Matt, call me, I'm here for ya Bud....
We all need to brainstorm on how we can make Letterhead Meets work again.

Shoot, sorry to hear things didn't come together Matt. I know there were some concerns early on whether the city fathers would be able to really step up and help out with the budget or not...
Well, look at it this way: Now you only have to lose sleep over work, kids in the night, high heat bills, taxes and the everyday stuff rather than worrying about how many people will be coming to the meet, what to serve, how much paint to order, how much scaffold to get, what's the weather going to do... etc!
Thanks for all that you have done at both Brush Bashes... every individual plays such an important part of pulling a meet together. Move forward, good luck with all that is on your plate as it is... your new shop is great!

Sorry to hear things didn't come together back that way for you with the meet. Knowing you, I'm sure you put in a huge effort to do the best you could.
Having never run a large meet like this myself, I can only imagine how much work goes into it. I pitched in on Kurt's last meet and got a glimpse of it.....scary nuff!
take care of yourself, thanks for givin' er a go for us all. Best of luck and I'll see ya in Sconny one of these days!

I agree with you Mike, it seems there's always such a monetary loss hosting a letterhead meet.
Either charge like a workshop to cover meals etc or charge minimally (for refreshment expenses) and let everyone take care of everything themselves expense wise. Bring your chequebook and buy as you go and for what you choose to do.
Never having hosted a meet, I may not know what I speak of, but to me if you don't want to charge alot for it, hold it in one's shop, limit numbers and open your doors. Keep it local so folks can bring their own paints etc, you get the idea. More like a visit with byos. (bring your own stuff). If guests use up your stuff, they can pay for it. No one should be out of pocket for these things. If someone wants to volunteer to teach a seminar or be there as a supplier, they're on their own accord.
Wouldn't that be more along the lines of how things use to be? No expenses = you pay for yourself. Having it done for you = pay up! Big.

Oh, that is such a shame. I have almost completed booking all my flights. It's a good thing you have posted in time for me to change them around to possibly get to a different meet. I will hopefully still come and stay with Mike Meyer and do the Walldogs meet. I have two more weeks after that, I can either go on to spend them with my aunt in Missouri or attend another meet if there is one close by.
I know Paul Jordan is coming over to attend also, hopefully we can work out something else.

Really sorry to hear about this Matt, but it's understandable. From what you told me the last time we talked it sounded like you had some great things planned. Too bad Hudson couldn't come up to the plate but in the end it will be their loss.

Hey man, what a shocker, I was really looking forward to it, but hey, you gave it a shot and that's what really matters. What's to stop us from swingin' in to say hello? It's okay, Matt. We still luv ya.

Sorry to hear the news, puttin togather an International is a real chore, and as Mike says it effects more than just you. Maybe I'll just show up and visit you anyway. I'll always remember sittin and giggling with you in the Black Hills in Carole's Volvo. Remember our buddy trying to deliver Mikey's drawing to the Fire Department. Miss that Duane. I still have to pick up my glass if you still have it. Maybe we can have a Mini Meet.
