Since I have not used HDU but once I ask for some advice from the pros. What kind of adhesive is best to bond HDU to itself and to other substrates. My HDU supplier couldn't answer my question. Thanks in advance for your response.

Most people would use Gorilla glue/Polyurethane glue to bond HDU to itself, since when cured it's texture and properties are more or less the same as HDU. Some use Epoxy, but this can leave a harder join line that is more difficult to sand.

Precision Board has their own which sands out better than gorilla glue. It works on all brands of HDU too and has a great shelf life, if you clean and replace the lid correctly.

I've been using west system for years now. It works well. It can be mixed as slow or fast curing and it's viscosity can be adjusted with rag filler.
We make a few adhesives for Precision Board (HDU) that can be used to bond HDU to itself or other substrates. PB Bond-240 (what Ken was talking about, Thanks Ken :-) ) is a one part urethane adhesive that cures in 8-12 hrs. (12 for total cure, 8 to start working with), we also make PB Fast Set, same as PB Bond, but this cures in 30 min. (fast working time). PB Bond/ Fast Set are great adhesives to use since you can carve, rout, sandblast through them. We also have a 2 part epoxy (you can add a 3rd part to change hardness/machinability) that is great for structural mounting. If you have any questions, or would like samples, please call me.
Thanks, Kellie

I was just answering your email! Both PB Bond and PB Fast Set come in 16 oz., 32 oz., Gal. and 5 Gal Pails. Approximate coverage is 1 sq ft. per 1/2 oz. -Remember to use appropriately when bonding unlike products together, and to NOT do a full face bond. (diff expansion/contraction rates) A little bit goes a long way. For pricing it's best to get that from your local Precision Board distributor, but for an approximate price you're looking at about $32. for a 32oz (Quart) size bottle. I'll send you some samples!
Anything else, please let me know.
Thanks, kellie

Kellie, It has been a long time since I have used the PB Glue and Forgot.. Does it foam up like the Gorilla glue. That is one main reason I won't use the Gorlla. I have really enjoyed the west Systems but for some projects I gould see the advantage of the PB glue if it doesn't foam.
Most everyone uses too much PG Bond and Gorilla glue on their panels.
Kellie demo's this by spraying a little water on one HDU surface and with a vinyl application squeege apply the thinnest amount of bond. Thinner is better
Since HDU isn't absorbent, there's no reason for much glue. I hardly have any squeeae out at all.

Bill I sent you an email today (I saw it before this post) and yes, it does expand but not as much. As Joe mentioned, you only want to apply enough PB Bond (or PB Fast Set) to change the color of the board and then clamp it. The real key, is to have as thin of a glue joint as possible. I haven't seen a reply email from you yet, but would you like samples? Darcy, Michael and Cody - your samples are on the way! :-) Anyone else?
Thanks! Kellie

I hate to sound like a begger but I wouldn't mind trying a sample of the glue, I use gorilla glue and have never really been happy with it. I recently swithced from Sign Foam to Precicsion Board and have been happy so far.
