Howdy folks,
This is an old subject by now, but I'm still giving it the college try getting my Encad functional. I printed one beautiful 3'x5' banner on aqueous outdoor scrim material then a puff of smoke and the motor died. No readout on output LCD. So I dove in and researched the motor where I could actually see physical proof of the burnout, ordered the motor and now I'm stuck. There doesn't seem to be a way to replace this motor. The channel is too narrow to get any tools into and there are screws on the other side of the piece that holds the motor in place. Anyone ever had to replace one of these. Should I attempt it further or cut my losses?

Regards,
Randy

That's a hard call Randall. If you can actually install it you have no guarantee that it was the motor that caused the burnout or something else caused the motor to fry. This could be a small money pit on an obsolete printer, not a good investment.

My HP5000 ate its carriage belt last year. A service call was thousands of dollars and a new belt, $45. I took a stab at it and was able to install it. It was very iffy as there were no instructions that HP offered and every piece that I took off I wasn't sure I could get it back on but 4 hours of careful work later i had a good printer.

If you start on this project I'd take notes and digital pics as you go. Good luck!

Ps: I may have a 5000 for sale as I haven't used it much since purchasing a 9000s.
