Our vacations are a great way for Janis & I to relax. And that we do.
They are also a GREAT way to gather INPUT. I firmly believe we would have a very tough time being creative if we didn't gather as many ideas from as many sources as possible. Its a way to build the visual library from whioch we work. Those who have been to my studio/workshop understand my passion in colecting ideas. They are chock full! But I'm not done yet... not nearly!
On this trip I've been very busy... gathering ideas in many forms.
The first day I walked the trade floor of the SGIA show. ALthough much of it was out of my area of business there were no shortages if inspiration and ideas. Wall to wall! Lots to see and take pictures of... plenty of brochures and literature to gather.
There were some very cool signs in the eating areas and elsewhere in the big hall. The plush resort where we were guests (compliments of our winning prize in the sign contest) was way over the top and creative ideas abounded at every turn.
A drive down the busy streets surroundng the convention center was creative overload... plenty of wonderul ideas there!
And Disney is wall to wall creative... I generally take at least a thousand pictures each trip. Other local theme parks are the same.
I also take the time to poke around in every book store I can find on my travels. It seems each region and store stock different books, ones I've never seen before. This go around has been a BONANZA of wonderful finds... COOL BOOKS with THOUSANDS of great pictures! My large as possible carry-on is now full... a tad overweight I suspect. I'm not done yet... still a week to go!
Lots of good reading and inspiration here! They will be added to the 1300 or so great books already in the library.
I've gathered a few inspirational toys too... perfect for sparking new ideas... and for playing with Phoebe!
Busy gathering valuable INPUT in Florida...

Dan has a really great book I borrowed for awhile, I can't remember the artist's name, however he spoke many times of 'building up one's card file.'
It makes perfect sence. Whether it's my means of magazines, books, collecting objects, or pictures you've taken, it's all about a gathering of added inspiration to reference from when need be. Without it, I believe that's where one starts to slump and hold back because you just don't really know where else to go and keep things fresh. Ask me how I know.
For this reason I keep my camera in my truck all the time. I drive down different roads on my way somewhere. I walk into stores I've never been in. I try new things I've never done before. I strike up conversations with complete strangers. You just never know. More leads to growth.
I MISS OUR PHOEBE!!!!!!! I think we've been away too long!
Oh well.... we'll continue to spy on Disney... and scout out stuff for Phoebe and I to discover together when we come down this way next.
Missing Phoebe in Florida...
