Hey Gang! Just wanted to peak my head in here and let you all know that Dave Smith has a few instructional type videos available on YouTube.com showing his 'Smith Tip" gilders tip. For all of you out there that do gilding on glass, this is a must see. It features all three of his Daughters in separate short clips. After viewing a few (8 total) you'll see how revolutionary and easy this new tool is to use.

Thanks Gary and Susan. for your comments. The kids took to the tips well. It was Hannahs first time gilding and the two little ones had only gilded once before. It shows how easy it is to use. Sonny if you would like some info on them contact me at chapman_and_smith@btinternet.com they have sold like hot cakes all over which is great so thanks for all your support so far to everyone. I will in the near future be placing an add with Steve and Barb on the merchants pages.
Thanks Dave

Dave Smith has revolutionized the gilding industry. I received mine several weeks ago and it works like a dream.
And add my appreciation for the "actors" in the film. Great job by some lovely models.
Sonny - I'm sure that David would be more than happy to send one to you from across the pond (payment can be made several ways). Contact him through his website.
Like everything else David does, the instrument is first class.

What a great product! I was sold after watching just one video. Any gilder that discovers those links here in Letterville will surely purchase one as a result.
I'm delighted to learn you are considering becoming a Merchant David. Selling advertising is the way we make our living. If anyone has a product or service, you have to look at doing advertising at some point.
There are all sorts of ways to advertise. Magazines, direct mail, email campaigns, trade shows, and websites like Letterville where sign people, particularly Letterheads, gather. Advertising should generate sales for the seller, generate revenue for the advertiser, allow consumers to learn about new products, and how show then where to purchase them.
We want to use this opportunity to remind you all that Letterville is still the best bang for your advertising dollar. At $500 a year, there is simply no other way to reach so many for so little. We've kept the same low price for 8 years now to insure the small business has an affordable way to advertise.
I've always hated talking about money. Asking for the money is still my least favorite part of working for myself. Must be some self esteem issue.
The fact that most of you are either friends or fellow Letterheads, makes it even harder to post something like this. We don't want to appear greedy or mean spirited, but free plugs do deny Letterville of much needed income.
I can relate to those that sell fonts. Despite the fact, it denys their creator income for their efforts, some still believe it is ok to trade amoung "Friends." It isn't. You may feel good saving a "friend" some money, but someone is missing out somewhere.
Make sure you tell our advertisers Letterville played some part in your decision to buy. Thank them for investing in our playgroud and encourage them to post regularly. I like to buy from friends whenever possible. Becoming a regular part of the Community is a great way for Merchants and Consumers to get to know each other on a more personal level.
Thanks for the opportunity to talk about a touchy subject. Good luck with all your businesses!

Thanks Bobbie. They certainly show some interest.I think Lauren the middle one will work with me one day. She as an eye for design ,always a pencil or brush in her hand. There pretty good kids. One question to those people reading this post .Which would you say is the hardest to deal with -girls or boys? Some days my 14 year old Hannah starts to turn into werewolf. I guess thats just the age they go through .Would be interesting to hear your comments Dave

They save alot of time and lots of gold Bob. I have been gilding full leaves today,I have layed a total of 135 leaves here on a glass job with maybe only 4 wasted leaves due to rushing. They just spring to the glass flat everytime. the trick is not to over charge the tip. Dave

David, I also bought my tip as a result of exposure through this Letterheads website, so I think Steve makes a valid point.
We should all encourage him to feel fine with asking for support. It may be your least favorite part of the job, but we all have to do it in our own business.

I have every intention of becoming a merchant very soon once my design layout is finished. Your point is very valid Steve, I totally agree with the advertising arrangement which is very fair. Thanks for your comments on my Tip design also. This is a great site ,I wish I had more time to get involved sometimes with the many talented folk that visit here. Thanks Dave.

I'll give another testimonial for the Smith Tip. I bought mine at the meet in Wales and used it just last week with great results.
Dave Smith has designed the first significant improvement in gilding tools in probably more than a century, and in doing so, is bringing glass gilding to a much wider audience of sign crafters.

Dave, reguarding your question comparing dealing/raising boys vs. girls: It really depends on a lot of things. But one thing is, girls are more emotional and they tend to drag on squabbles longer. Boys tend to get to the battle then get over it. My boy has been more difficult than my girls when it comes to being careful and respectful of others' belongings. I sometimes have a hard time finding my tools after he's been in them. And his room may contain more of my dishes than my cupboard at any given time!
