Friday I was offered a used Versacamm SP-540V at a good price from a local reputable dealer. They are willing to install it, train us and provide ongoing support. They will also supply us with the VersaWorks RIP Software

I am curious if anyone here has experience with one and how is it going. This one is only 13 months old and has low hours on it. It prints and cuts. With 4 print heads it prints up to 54"w at up to 114 sqft/hr at 360 dpi. It has resolution modes up to 720dpi x 1440 dpi. The machine will cut as well as print.

This would be our first digital printer. I would like to know what to look out for when operating it.

If you have concerns about the Vesacamm that you would rather not post hee please email me at cchurchill1@cogeco.ca.

what's the price and warranty? keep in mind with the dollar at par going new is not as expensive as it used to be, and the new 4 head vp series eliminates a relatively uncommon but frustrating problem of magenta getting sucked up the yellow line due to swollen sponges or an empty yellow that fails to register as empty, which turns everything orange. The vp has a 2 year warranty and prints faster too.As for the sp 540 we've had great luck with them and problems have been fairly minor.Make sure all the profiles are up to date as well

Had ours for 2 years and it works great.. we did have the heads replaced but that was covered under warranty, but this machine is a great addition to the shop.

We also have a Versacamm SP540. We were worried at first when we bought it, but definitley has been a blessing to have around. Though the laminator we purchased after is a bigger blessing now!!

We too had a problem with the magenta and Yellow mixing, but they came and fixed it right away and haven't had an issue since...KNOCK ON WOOD!! [Smile]

Have fun with it if you choose its the right machine for you.

Had ours for almost a year. No problems at all. Easy to use. Couldn't imagine being with out one. Quality is great.

Plan on a laminator. We do alot of role on liquid clear coat. Great for some apps. but requires dry time and more shop area, and very clean or no dust room.

We have had no color problems.

If price is right you can't go wrong. Full retail before vp-540 was around $25k.

I believe you'll enjoy the machine. I've had my vp540 almost 2 years. Had my first problem with it just last thursday...bad pump and had magenta ink dripping on the floor. Roland replaced the pump at no charge but i had to pay for the labor. Thank goodness the tech from Houston was in New Orleans and had to pass me by on his way home! Other than that the machine has been absolutely perfect. It's constantly running!

On a side note, i had to cut some vinyl out today and it's been awhile since i've done that and realized how spoiled i am by my sp540.

I was going to buy a used SP540 earlier in the summer, and was told that if I wanted to print banners that there had been issues with feeding heavier materials through it. Our neighbour had one for printing orienteering maps for housing areas and like it for what they use it for.

We also looked at the VP540, but bought a Roland Soljet XP540 Pro 3 and have been really happy with that too.

Kathy, it would probably be a good idea to get yourself an extra pump or 2. They run around $50 ea. They are easy to install yourself and will get you out of a pinch when they go out next time, and they will. I believe the Mimaki pumps are of better quality. My origianl ones were pretty quite. These new ones are very noisey with a loud clicking sound, but apparently that's how they should sound.
