I've never tried "on-line", but all newspaper ads have ever got me was a fistful of resumes all with the wrong qualifications. Perhaps mentioning it here & then in the classified section of the bullboard would work....there may be someone lurking who's tired of self-employment, tired of North Dakota winters, whatever..........

Hey, what's the matter with North Dakota winters, huh? Well?!?!?! Oh yeah... Never mind.
Seriously, I would post the job on sign boards and in trade journals. You need to go where the talent is to find talent.
Advertising locally, from my experience, for a sign designer will bring you a slew of "graphic designers" who think that designing signs is nothing and not taxing upon their skills.
Good luck with your search!

Seems to me this forum would be the best way to get word around. Where else are you gonna find people who really know what they are doing in this industry as well as have a true passion for it? I've seen ads placed in sign magazines as well. I would think all that a regular newspaper ad will get you would be a slew of resume's from every new wet behind the ears graduate from graphic design school.

This seems to be a more and more common problem, not only in our profession, but in most. Many people in this area are crying for help. I have relatives in the sign business in Ohio who have been working 32 hours a day, because they say they can't find help.
It's amazing how many young people have no mechanical skills at all. I've had a couple in at times to help with installs, etc. who didn't know one end of a post-hole digger from the other. Or after about half a dozen whacks on the hard ground with a spud bar, it's "Oh, man, dude, this sucks. My back hurts." Or some such nonsense. It's not as much fun as playing video games or listening to some rap-crap.
Part of the problem, at least from my relatives' standpoint, is that they don't want to pay top dollar for someone they don't know will work out. So they don't get top dollar applicants. It's the old catch 22 thing. And, realistically, this profession seems to attract more than its share of floaters, for some reason. In the past, we've had more than one occasion where some dumb-a-- almost cost us a job, or did our business a large amount of damage, reputation-wise.
Good luck with your search, guys. I like to stick with more local papers, etc. Hiring help from more local areas just eliminates one more excuse for them not showing up for work....a long drive or commute.
