With Steve's kind permission I'd like to officially announce an upcoming workshop we are planning here in our shop in Yarrow this fall.
We've been working very hard for almost two years to learn and then take the art of routing and all that goes with it to a whole new level. Although there is undoubtably still an unlimited amount to learn, we feel its time to begin passing on as much as we possibly can in a workshop venue. We are partnering with EnRoute to do just that very thing.
The workshop will be here in our studio/shop which is plug full of cool examples of the things we've tried - some successfully and some not. We'll have the router handy and warmed up for hands-on training, demonstrations and trials of files. We certainly have no shortage of ideas to work on and I'm sure many of the participants will add their creative ideas to the magic.
EnRoute is sending out their head of training, Tom Penner, for the workshop. He is a master at the ins and outs of EnRoute and its workings. If EnRoute can possibly do something cool Tom will know exactly how it can be accomplished.
It should be an over the top weekend of creativity and learning of router techniques to say the least!
Dan Sawatzky's Router Magic Presented by EnRoute Pro Sawatzky's Imagination Corporation Yarrow, British Columbia
October 19 -20 - 21 - Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Tom Penner, the head instructor from EnRoute will be on hand for the weekend and will be handling some of the instruction. He'll be going through his training material and will have instructional videos and printed material available for those in attendance.
Dan will be discussing at length not only how they accomplish their router projects but also how he thinks when he create the original ideas. He will give talks on the methods he uses to design and create his magic and will also cover many post router techniques including 3D sign assembly and painting with acrylics and other faux finishes.
Dan will also have a CD of proven textures he's developed for all who attend.
Friday
Friday morning will start with a tour of the shop and studio and some local projects. Dan and Tom will give and overview of what will be covered during the weekend with input from those in attendance on special requests. Various lessons will be covered on Friday about building flies for the router. Lunch will be in the shop. We'll have a nice dinner Friday evening with more informal discussion.
Saturday Saturday will be workshops with working demonstrations with the router. Lots of questions will be answered. They will share very trick Dan and his crew have learned as they created their award winning projects. Lunch will be in the shop. Dan and members of his crew will also do some faux finishing demos and other demonstrations of how they do things daily in their shop to add the Sawatzky magic to every project. Another dinner on Saturday night.
Sunday Sunday will be an informal time to answer any remaining questions and to work on projects. The class will undoubtably begin breaking up as people head home... but the shop will remain open for those wishing to stay.
The cost for the workshop will be $1500 per person. There is a limit of 10 people for the workshop.
More information will be forthcoming.

We're getting lots of enquiries regarding just what is included and what's not in the router workshop.
The fee does not include the cost of lodging although we will be working on getting a reasonable rate in the local hotels.
Pretty much everything else is covered however.
We will be providing all meals during the event to make things as convenient as possible for those in attendance.
We will provide all materials and supplies used during the event for those who wish to try projects.
All participants will recieve a training CD and printed training material from EnRoute... value $350 US plus personal instruction and answering of all questions by Tom Penner.
I'll be sharing everything I possibly can that I know and have learned over the last two years. All participants will recieve a CD of all the textures I have developed since I've had my router.
Those already coming are eager to share their knowlege and routing experience with the others in attendance. It will be an unbelieveable and intense opportunity to learn everything you can possibly absorb about routing in a three day period.
I'm looking forward to it greatly.

Anyone wishing to make travel arrangements should book through Vancouver B.C. YVR airport. THe airport is about 90 minutes from our house.
Those coming from the USA can come via Bellingham or Seattle Washington, especially if you don't yet have a passport. You can currently drive through US customs with other forms if opicture ID but to go through airport customs you need a passport. Bellingam airport is about 1 hour plus away... Seattle a little further.
For those not wishing to rent a car I will come get you from Vancouver.

I'm going to try to make it, however it is also about the time I have a backpacking trip planned for the Grand Canyon. I'll have to see what I can do with my schedule.

If I didn't already committ to a wedding and Gun raffle (great Wisconsin combination) I'd be there. My question would have been, what about those of us that do not yet have Enroute? Is there any incentive to purchase at that time?
thanks for offering this, hopefully next time I'll have more time to set aside for this.
take care, and best wishes...

Henry Barker from Sweden is now confirmed and arriving on the Monday before the router workshop weekend. That will give him time to get over the jet lag. We'll put him to work in the shop!
Danny Baronian from California has also confirmed he'll be coming. We've been trading router secrets since the walldog meet in Lodi. Danny is going to add a lot to the workshop!
Chad Mangrun, a music cabinet builder from California is also coming. He's bringing his 3D scanner and will give a demonstration on how it works. That should be very cool!
Lots of others are expressing an interest and looking into travel arrangements.
My mind is racing on overtime as I gather ideas of the things we'll do at the workshop.
Looking forward to a fun time in Yarrow...
