I have a customer supplied graphic in .psd, and I can get rid of the background layer when it's in photoshop, but when I import it into illustrator (8) it has the "white box" again.

The logo has "soft" drop shadows, so it would be very hard to mask.

Any suggestions or tricks out there?

Thanks,
Eric Houser

Eric,

You can't Copy/Paste a psd from Photoshop into Illy without the white box.

You must do this:

1. Open up Illustrator....
2. Go to "file" and then select "place"
3. Select your psd file from the explorer tree list where it appears.
4. Make sure "Link file" is deselected.
5. Click On "OK" when the Photoshop Import Options box pops up and you should have the transparent background you want.

Hope this helps.

Edit to say that at least it works like this in the last handful of Illustrator versions. Not sure about version 8....

Thanks Todd!

I'll try it in the morning.
