The company i am working for just bought a Gerber Sabre 408 Router. They are not sure which T-Vac option to get the 7hp or 10hp.

The problem is the 10hp is three phase and we do not have that in our building and the cost was going to be about 4 grand to get it in the building. I'm not sure of the specifics of that part of it but the 7hp was single phase.

My question was more along the lines has anyone had experiance with both or with either or?

The 2 other sign comapnies i worked for have all had the 3phase option, So i dont know how much better or worse the router would work.

Thanks for your input..

We got an inverter to convert the voltage from single phase to what was required... much less expensive than the $10 K it would have cost us to bring in 3 phase power. We run a 12 HP vacuum with no problem.

ahh but i've seen your work and it calls out for the best!..

However i guess they've decided to go with the converter for the high powered spindle and use the single phase 7hp TVAC.

I just didnt know if there was a significant difference of suction between the 10 and 7 versions of the TVAC.

The 3 phase pump will be cheaper to run and offer more suction. BUT, you need to look at the specs of the vacuum pump though. While researching my router purchase, I found 15 and 20 HP vacuum pumps with less suction than the 11.5 HP I ended up with.

Edit:
Personally, I don't see a 7 HP single phase unit being strong enough, unless you have a 4' x 4' table. Another factor is the type of sacrificial table top you're using, and whether you're going to cut through your substrate or not.

The three different options are as follows

The power requirements for the Siemens vacuum blower motor are:

10 HP, three phase, 400 - 480 V at 11.5 Amp, or
10 HP, three phase, 200 - 240 V at 23 Amp, or
7 HP, single phase, 208 - 230 V at 39 - 37 Amp

Now there are more specs on their website. The problem is they say that all the people they've sold a single phase blower havent had any problems.

Plus we did get the high frequency spindle option so that needs its own dedicated 3 phase line. So if thats the case we would need 2 inverters to get the power up to whats neccasary. Oh well thanks for your thoughts and answers Dan and Dave.

Nathan, you don't need two 3 phase converters, just a larger one. They are sized to a specific load and you need a CNC rated converter for your spindle anyway. You need a 3 phase converter that can handle the running load. You start your spindle first to get it warmed up, your vacuum pump starts up later. A good converter outfit can size one unit to run both.
