Well gang, I told you that I would do my best to keep you up dated on our friend Shep, so here goes. He has been getting chemo for a few weeks now, but it has been stopped. The cancer has spread to his liver, and today, hospice came in for the first time. The outlook at this time is definitely not good. The doctors say it is only a matter of time, so we wait and we pray. For those interested, his mailing address is as follows, Shep Shepard, 215 Davis Rd. Mount Airy, NC. 27030. Sadly, Donald Miner

Donald, sorry to hear that, never met him, but sad to hear about another sign brother going away. I'll say a prayer for him and his family...

And the really sad part is the talent and knowledge that will be forever lost. I think about that a lot lately, maybe because I'm getting older or thinking of what might have been. Thanks, Don

It's a brave man that sticks w/a sick friend to the end, may God bless you...
My prayers and thoughts to Shep and his family, their sojourn is about to start, may they weather this journey that is about to unfold...it's a natural process but painful none the less...God speed Shep, may your trip be free of fear and may the Lord watch over you for the rest of time...
Like others, it's sad to witness ones demise, but it's really the start of his reward, so cheer up, his problems are shortly going to be solved and his pain and suffering will be no longer...

Jeepers, I was in your shoes last October, Donald, with a great friend in the same predicament- once it got to his liver, well, he lasted about a month. All they could do was keep up the pain medication, and I spent a long time with him, just talking about the good old days, and we went for many wheelchair jaunts through the botanical gardens, off to folk clubs & touristy places in the city at midnight and other weird hours, depending on when he woke up each day, just to keep him getting various experiences & soaking up bits of atmosphere he'd always loved.
At the funeral, I spoke of how we all would like him back, for selfish reasons, to be able to finish unended conversations etc, but also that nobody would really want wish him back into the state of pain he was in, at the end.
I pray Shep does not suffer that level of physical pain for long.

This makes me very very sad. Shep is just a wonderful man. I'm glad I had the chance to meet him, and am grateful too that he was able to teach us his woodgrain technique at my house.
What a special person he is, and a fellow cat lover too. My cat Max absolutely adored him when he was here, and Max (whom I've since lost) was an excellent judge of character! Shep is definately in my thoughts ... fondly. ~nettie

It was a pleasure to met and hang out with Shep at the Sandcastle meet. He came up with the idea to pinstripe my head. I still don't have a picture of it. I will treasure my 57 Chevy print that I have of his.
I will be praying for him, his family, and you Donald. Thanks for the update.

Such sad news. My thoughts and prayers will be with you Shep. Even though we never met, I came to count you as a friend through your posts here.
May the Lord bless you with comfort, both here and in the here after. And may your days be filled with "flowers" from those who know and love you.

This is the first post I've read since finding my way back here, and I am extremely saddened by this news. Shep was the first person I had hoped to see here, we had talked breifly a few times on the web and I really admired his work, especially his wood graining he was doing at the time. Although I'm not a praying type my thoughts are with Shep and his family.

My prayers go out to you Shep. I have not had the opportunity to meet you in person, but through letterville and all of the artwork that you've shared with us. It speaks to me as if I know you too, as other letterville that would look forward to meeting you in person. You have given many of us inspiration and hope, beyond what you may imagine.
It comforts many of us to know that Donald is with you during these times; the words in the above posts say what I would like to also.
I like the pic Nettie posted! We'll be thinking of you everyday.

As difficult as this is, and the fact that all of us will also, someday stand at this threshold, it is so heart warming to know that there will hopefully still remain,as there is today, a brother (& sister)hood that will be there, with respectful love & support. I never had the blessing of meeting you Shep... but trust, one day I will. "There is no other name given under heaven by which we must be saved"... Happy Graduation! in Jesus' Name. God Speed to you, your Family & Yours & our enduring Friend, Don. Chris

Shep made for some very fond memories for me, at his Woodgraining workshop a few years ago , just outside of Maybery. He made us all feel so welcome, kept things cooking along, teaching us how to make anything look like Wood!... his buddies dropping by, music, and him doing the step-dance, so multi-talented, with no ego attached. Shep,I wish for you a safe journey, to where your best brushes Never go bad.
