Ya gotta watch it all the way through...Steve Vai really gets cranking....

If I had fingers as long as ET's, I might be able to do this too! I swear that guy has an extra set of knuckles - his fingers are extremely long!

If you really want to be amazed, check out a Vai song book. They had to invent ways to write down what he was doing.

You're aiming high Todd. That's good.

Your fingers don't matter as much as your desire. Just look at Roy Clark -stubby fingers and I bet he could play what Vai plays if he wanted to.

I've been reading about Django Reinhardt(at long last) and he played amazingly despite a really bad hand injury.

I've got the G3 DVD with Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson & Steve Vai. Its amazing. But being a bass player I like all the stuff with Stu Hamm in it the most.

As a teen Steve Vai was hired by Frank Zappa to transcribe his music and he had to invent new ways to transcribe it.

Went to a G3 concert in 2003 in Pensacola. It was in a fairly small theater house so up close, personal and loud.

Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani played..... one word: MIND-BLOWING.

That has the cleanliness of Eric Johnson (and the arpegios), the raw passion of Steve Morse, the shredding techniques of Tony McAlpine and the same depth of feeling and phrasing of his teacher, Joe Satriani. Steve Vai has always been one of my favs; I have one of his songs as the song on my MySpace page. I remember Zappa crediting him with "Strat noises" on one of his albums when he was playing with him. I remember reading that Steve used to spend about 10 hours a day transcribing Zappa's music for him.

We were at the movies last night and saw the "Rise of the Silver Surfer" trailer and couldn't help but thing of the album I used to have "Surfing With the Alien" by Satch. Man that is good stuff! Watching "Red House" by Satch, Vai and Johnson on YouTube right now.

Interesting watching Steve play. Most all guitar players I know of have, at one time stated that their guitar playing was a sexual thing. "Skunk" Baxter of the Doobie Bros. comes to mind.Sure looks like Steve was having fun.

Todd, check this one out.Shows how some of that is done, and you can see on one part that those riffs are nothing but running up and down the scales.

I have been trying to find the version of this where Chris Squire and Tony Levin do the solo together sort of like a deuling basses.

He is playing the heck out of it as only Stevie Ray could!! Here's a link to Clinton Taylor Moon's MySpace; Sonny had him play for us at the Dixie meet. He's the closest thing there is to SRV.
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=59788015
Be SURE to watch the video of him in the "about me" space near the top!!! The first thing I noticed about the kid was how worn his fretboard was throughout the entire register. I said to myself "This kid is going to be awesome!".

Here is a link to my friend Billy Walton's site:

http://www.myspace.com/billywalton

He played Stevie Ray's guitar parts at the tribute concert Double Trouble had in Texas when he was only in his late teens, early 20's.

He's been playing since he was 5.

Got Cross Roads from Netflix yesterday and watched it with the kids last night. This morning I was cutting custom fit copper tubing for two of the boys
for Blues slides. Made them file the burs off for a comfortable fit. Can you have North Coast Blues Men,
Duluth has a big blues fest?

Tell ya what Dick, we won't say anything about you having blues men up there if you don't say anything about us having a hockey team in Hotlanta, LOL. Actually there is Texas blues, Memphis blues and Chicago blues. My personal favorite is Texas then Chicago.
