"S" Single stroke, three stroke, and stunt. S is the easiest way to give a line character. and give it the "hand Lettered Look"

If you could live anywhere in the world and still be in the sign business, where would that be?

The most expensive one I could get. I'd then sell it, buy a couple more practical ones and live off the remainder. Oh, wait a minute... I'm paying for this car. Never mind.

What's the worst hardware purchase you ever got for your shop?

A Ryobi 7 inch circular saw, after the old small 20 yr old Makita one burnt out. That ryobi is the biggest bit of good-looking junk I ever regretted touching, except for a Ryobi air blaster which broke down a week out of warranty, and was barely used.

Otherwise, I'd say I haven't regretted any hardware purchases.

How many gallons of thinners do you go through per year?

P.S. I'd better qualify that- it won't cut a 90 degree edge when set to do so- the guides wobble several degrees either way when tight, and the blade protector/cover jams against timber, rather than sliding back as you cut into something, and it's worse at 45 degree angles-it pushes you off course, and makes it hard to start any cut on the line you intended.

But it looks so nice & new, that I haven't a heart to throw it out!

Not much at all, Ian...if you are refering to solvents. I work in water based mediums mostly. I probably haven't used more than a gallon of thinner this year.

Lurching around Lodi in Sawatzky's "Hecklemobile" on the way to harrass Jay Allen, only to have a local zoom by and yell at Dan: "Learn to drive!"

The heckler got heckled!

What equipment do you covet for your shop... other than a Ryobi 7 inch circular saw? You can get the saw free for a trip to Australia.

A CNC router. I have so many projects in my mind for one, the first being a new sign for my shop.

If a bra is an upper topper flopper stopper,
and a jock strap is a lower decker pecker checker,
and gold toilet paper is a super duper pooper scooper,
what do you call a punch drunk Japanese boxer who's father has diahrea?

I'd have to say airbrushing...

Si, I'm a bit younger than Jon, so your brushes will get a bit more use here- I'll pass them on to Vicky after I'm done with them!

David, I'll put a 'reserved' sticker on that saw for you- come and get it, last week of October 2007, Letterheads-Oz!!!

Working or non working?

Four working, enough obsolete parts to cobble together a bunch of ones slow enough to drive a teetotaler to drink.

Now I have to come up with another question.

What's a good question to ask?

How many meets have you attended that were not in the United States or Canada?

Probably the Hervey Bay meet that Darren Watkins hosted in 1999. I'd wanted to go to Jindabyne in 97 & Loxton in 98, but couldn't go & leave Joan with a freshly young family & a farm full of animals needing feeding etc, and no vehicle, so when it came to Qld, I was not going to miss it- so close to home!

Why was it good- well, Glenda Beatty & I went. We met Darren, Gail & Devo (yeah, I thought Devo & Darren were business partners or brothers or something then, too...!), Rob Clarke, Dan Seddon, Ticks, big Kev Browne, Rick & Ros & Gemma Hayman (who turns 21 this weekend), Brian Petty, Simon Reich, Dave Drane, John Rigby and stacks of others I'd heard about, plus a couple of Yankee fellows, and I can't remember who else...but it was a great influence on me- workshops, things happening, talent, games, really nice friendly people...and I decided I'd try & not miss any more, no matter what, and that one day when I'd get to host a meet, it would be something like that time!

All other meets come close, but that first one was the most memorable & influential to me!

edited to add I forgot a question...so I'll repeat Jon's question instead:

When, where & why was your most memorable letterheads (not hydroponic!) meet?

May,2003.

Mass Mayhem 3.

It was my first meet. Though every one has it's special points and people, that feeling of wonder and inspiration at a first meet still takes the cake.

Did you work this weekend or take time off for the Memorial holiday in the US?

Fishing.

One day my father caught the biggest Brook Trout I have ever seen in my life and I was about to unhook it for him.

It slipped out of my hand and went back into the pool of water!

His boot went onto my back and pushed myself into the water!
All I can remember hearing was.."GO GET IT!"

Question..
What colour of pen do you use?
Black Ink?
Red Ink?
Green Ink?
Blue Ink?

and why that colour?

I absolutely LOVE to cook for the masses!

I have the privledge of working with a big group of volunteers. We cook for the volunteer construction workers. Our group of 50 or so are like family. If there is a choice of working or cooking, cooking ALWAYS wins! I think I like it so much because it has nothing to do with signs! [Smile]

Where would you go on vacation if money were no object?

I'd go to Germany (to the German meet next year? hope! hope!) and see where my family came from and then travel around Europe looking at art museums and cathedrals. Then I'd end off the trip in Egypt and see the pyramids and tombs in the Valley of the Kings. I've been reading the book "Nefretiti" (don't think I spelled it right) and it is fascinating!

What's the best quote, that you think should be on your wall carved in stone and gold leafed?

"Things work out best for the people who make the best of the way things work out." - Art Linkletter

The past two years have taught me to be accepting of circumstances beyond my control. I am not going to get what I came here for. My Vega is probably closer to someone else's garage than the road. I have a job (which in itself is pretty damn awesome...) and am part of a team rather than the head cheese.

I have accepted we have and where we are and what we are doing. I have reached a plateau of contentment I have never felt before. Minnesota has been one awesome ride so far. A guy could get to be liking it, you betcha!

First off, well put Bruce [Applause]

Newaygo is my Hometown. Located in west central Michigan, 30 miles from Lake Michigan, in a county of more than 200 fresh water lakes. I have thanked my parents many times for pulling me from the south side of Chicago at a mere 8 years old. The pace here is tolerable, and the people are awesome! Maybe someday I should take the time to go fishing. [Smile] Maybe with the grandkids [Smile]

What is the most valuable lesson you learned in the last year? (sign related or not)

[Cool]

To never miss a Letterhead/WallDog meet if you can help it!

How many folks are going to be in Algoma and does anyone wanna go fishing there? (after the meet-of course!)

Do you know where my other black sock went?
