I have a need to sell a back-lit sign in a brutal area for taggers etc. The sign is ~22'x3' and just above the door. I suppose you want to put the sign on the inside of clear polycarb and then laminate the outside somehow. Do you think something like Gerber clear vinyl would work, or what would peeps recommend? Obviously sign white with translucent vinyl would be tough to protect right? Thanks

Sell the sign without any additional protectant and include a can of vandal mark remover for the client to keep just in case. In most cases where vandalism is feared, it never happens.

there is a 1 mil tedlar graffiti protective film you can use that will stand up to some harsh solvents for cleaning the sign. I bought some at Product Sign Supply in San Jose Ca.
You could put it right over your applied vinyl, but the idea of reverse application may have merit as well. If it gets really messed up & can't be cleaned... it could be removed & replaced if the graphics were on the back side.
Gerber's UVguard vinyl or any other 1mil tedlar overlaminate will do well. I've used it for several projects that are in graffiti prone areas and it has worked extremely well.

And which professionals would you be speaking for?

There has been a real upsurge in the tagging that is taking place in our area. Previously thought safe things are no longer out of bounds for taggers. It has to be a territorial thing. Murals used to be pretty safe - no more. New signs were pretty safe - not any more.

Yeah.....our shop sign got tagged by a local Crips gang. I was able to clean it off with some lacquer thinner, thankfully. I had been planning on putting out a nice carved piece since the tagged one has already been under water twice and began to delaminate a bit. But now I'm having second thoughts.
