If only it was not so far and expensive, I would go every year.

Thanks for the "Past Meets" Link .... some of those I thought had been lost forever. Certainly brings back great memories.
As for being too far and expensive Bill .... it isn't really when you figure doing the Kiwi Meet in Auckland too on the way home. Besides, spend the kids inheritence and leave them the credit card bill ... I am!

One of my goals before I head for the big easel in the sky is to make it to a meet down-under. Realistically, what would it cost? Can some of the people who've made the trip weigh in and tell us just how far you maxxed out the old credit card?

Probably Steve & Barb would be the best people to answer that question Sonny. They were the last "up-overs" to come "down-under". I know for a fact they don't regret the cost.
With the highly competative airline fares between LA and OZ especially that time of year you are looking at well under US$2000 including a stopover in Auckland to do the Kiwi Meet on the way home. Both Qantas and Air New Zealand have several flights a day.
I can asure you the Hospitality in both countries is such that your accomodation and internal travel costs will be practically zero!
Currently your dollar is worth about $1.20 Australian and slightly more in New Zealand.

I returned last night late, from the Visual Impact show at the Gold Coast- the first one I've been able to get to for four years- and really enjoyed it. I've made up some flyers to promote Letterheads while down there, and they were well received, and sponsors/suppliers were very forward in offering to help us with materials- I've just dropped the registration costs a bit!
If anyone from 'up-over' would like to come over, email me and we'll work out something. Ditto to any new kiwis from 'just over'!
IN a week or two I'll add more to the website- and a few surprises!
Thanks for the compliments, Jon- and yes- some of those links do bring back fond memories- Clint Cooper, and Rob Clarke's post moretem highs from the events are great to read!

Sonny, your costs would be not much more than the airfare to get here & back-alone- or here, to NZ, and back!

Liddy and I have just come back from the states and we flew Air New Zealand as they had the best deal. It was under $4,000 for 2 of us and that included all taxes. That is a great site you have put together there Ian and I will be depositing my money in the bank in the next few days and booking a room at the pub.

Great, Clint, looking forward to seeing you again- how's the injury healing?
P.S. Anyone booking with the pub, or the motel, please let me know you won't need accommodation onsite, so it can be reallocated to others!
Joey, we need a fair bit of greenery here to help with creating harmony, but I can understand your wish- I like living on the farm out here all the time- there's a bit of a lack of car dealerships nearby, but the work is rolling in nicely at the moment for us- a coach (horse drawn) was dropped in last week for a full strip & repaint, and I start a new apprentice next week to help with the drudgery in that job! We would like to eventually set up a farmstay cabin on the place- there's an idyllic spot about 1/2 km from the house- and set it up as an alternative energy place- on solar & gas. You'd be welcome to come & stay a while! Currently, though, it's just a dream/goal.

P.S. this is the coach that just got dropped off- the paintwork is pretty flakey & falling off. A bit of timber is rotten, but otherwise, it's not in bad order. It was used in an aussie TV series in the 1960s.

A bloke from Gatton has just emailed saying he has a panel shop, and does a fair bit of hotrod painting & striping- he's happy to bring some bonnets & give demos. We can also make up some mini bonnet panels, and let people use them as demo panels. This kind of enthusiasm is GREAT!!!

Oh...thanks Dave- it must have been a typo. I phoned him to talk to him briefly, and thought I typed the number I dialled. I'll fix it pronto! In a day or so(maybe 5?), I'll make the rego form a pdf page which'll download, or an online form.
The new apprentice starts today, and we had 18 mm rain yesterday- things are good!!!

Interest is going well, and Mack brushes were kind enough to send us a special order dual striper which will be one of the prizes for one of our events:
I've tried it and I don't mind it at all- except I had to make a special holder for when I vaseline the bristles down after use...

Hi Ian, Due to a change in my circumstances I am not going to be able to make your meet. I am really gutted as I was so looking forward to it. I don't think I shall even be able to attend the Auckland meet which is doubly upsetting as I have not missed an NZ meet in 4 years, also it is the tenth anniversary. I'm sure you will all have an amazing time, I am looking forward to seeing all of the photos. Cheers Anne

Ian, there was a Disney series several years back that was filmed over there. An Australian cowboy stagecoach series, and that looks like the coach used in Five Mile Creek. There was this very cute little redhead in that series that has grown up to be known as Nicole Kidman.

Well-done Rick- you are correct! That was one of the coaches in Five Mile Creek. I can't edit my former post. The owners were told it was the 1960's, but I looked into it further, and it was definitely mid 1980s, 5 Mile Ck. I have since got a few photos of when it was in the movie. They had three coaches in the film- an authentic concord coach, imported from USA, an aussie style coach, and this one here, a replica of the authentic one, but which was built to sit in a rocking machine, and which has trapdoors inside, for placing the camera for filming internal travelling scenes. It had an a-frame so it could be towed behind a truck, for filming the driver's conversations too. I've found pictures of that, and a pic with a very young-looking Nicole Kidman standing beside it, too!
(edited to add...when used in the movie, it did not have that extra back seat- that was added by a subsequent owner, after the series ended)

Not long to go now, starting to organise my time to make sure we get there. Still unsure how many will be going from our shop, my apprentice is showing a keen interest in coming with me. Looking forward to a great time. Are there any from overseas coming to this fabulous meet, c'mon guys come on down. After the Australian meet you can slip over to New Zealand for their meet. There are 13 going to New Zealand from Jordans.

Wow, you're taking 13 to NZ- well done, Paul!
We have two so far registered from NZ & one from USA- but I'm keeping tight-lipped about names, per request.
Aussies, please get your paperwork in, at least, so we know how many polo-shirts to order, and what sizes to order, and how many panels to prepare!
Paul- do you have the pinstriping race track with you?
