It's still alive and living in Southern California. Two trucks were used in the movie. the one with mechanical problems "Hit the dirt"1 It's gonna be in some truck show in So. Cal. this summer. The owner keeps it as dirty as you see it now. When it sarts to get a little shinny, he roughs it up again. Watch out Dennis Hopper!

I love the coal blowing out the stack. Looks like an old Pete. What year is this?
They really haven't changed a whole lot, compared to autos. The air cleaner, split windshield look almost contemporary. Headlights have changed some. I would like to see the dashboard. I have always loved the front fenders. They look real nice with a straight stripe along the moulding, and it's very easy to do.

I believe that truck is a 1960 Peterbilt with a Cummins engine. I read about it in 10-4 magazine.

It wasn't Dennis Hopper... it was Dennis Weaver and he was driving a Dodge Dart. He should have listened to the attendant at the gas station when he told Weaver that needed to get that belt replaced, eh?
I actually saw a real life version of this happen in California. The driver waved a car on and there was oncoming traffic. Then he tailgated me all the way from Morgan Hill to Milpitas. What a whacko!
Great movie, though.

You could see the real thing this May 27th-29th at the California Speedway in (Felony) Fontana, CA. It's at the ATHS 25th National Show & Convention. I sure wish I could be there.

Just loved Dennis Weaver in that movie, it was great! Gave you a whole new perspective of driving alone on the open highway. Nothing like looking in your rearview mirror and seeing nothing but a bumper and radiator glued to the glass! Look foeward to seeing it again in the future.
