What purpose does a law serve if we don't give our public servants the tools to enforce them? So, maybe the laws that can not be enforced should be repealed. Less laws would make life a lot easier for everyone.

I don't know this answer Doug. But, I can say that similar events that have been prevented were not from writing more laws. They were prevented because "we the people" finally made a concious decision to get involved and informed the authorities of the potential danger. Unfortunately, in this situation, the authorities in this case didn't appear to react to the warnings.

From what I read, the guns were purchased within the last few months which shows that this was not a random act of violence and he did not "snap". The complaints against him date back to December of '05 which, imho, shows that our system failed and 32 more people died.

When a nation's leader is chosen by less than 1/2 of it's population and the only real voices being heard are those of PAC's, our nation is no longer being run by the people. It's too bad we can't make apathy a crime Laws don't prevent violence and our police can't protect us all. So, until we can come up with a better system, I'll support the right to bear arms. And, for the record, I do not own any guns.

I was really hoping we might use this discussion to explore other issues such as mental illness, anger management, etc. Instead we seem to be focusing on gun control. We're trying to fix the blame instead of the all the varied problems behind these sort of events.
For the most part, you all handled this potential explosive topic with respect for each other views. 4 days have now passed. It's time to lock this one up and get back to our online Letterhead Meet.
